sonicrainbrony 136 Posted August 9, 2012 As you might have noticed, one of the tags is "disconnect". No, this is not a whining post about disconnecting. I would simply ask, why?The server was FI23. I got my helicopter stolen on another server and thought: "Might as well see if this is a finnish server". Well it was, but we are going a bit off track here.I decided not to fuck around North with my high-tier equipment, but decided to help new spawns on the coast. So, I saw a man aggroing zombies in Kamenka. I tried to help, but it was too late (and too obvious that he wanted to die anyway, shame).Well, after fighting off some zombies I spot another man running near the coastline. I approach him, say "Hey, don't be shy, come here" with my gun lowered. He goes prone, rolls around a bit, then freezes. I approach him slowly. When I am right next to him, poof, he disappears. Disconnect...I would like to ask, why did he disconnect? What is the point if you don't have anything except some painkillers, a flashlight and a bandage. Why would you do the ultimate pussy-act with that gear? I had many chances to shoot him, but I didn't. What the hell people?
TalkingGoats 10 Posted August 9, 2012 Dude people aren't excepting help. Ever. Even when sincere. I ran into a noob who was almost dead, he was swinging at me 3 or 4 times but he kept passing out. I said "Friendly, Do you need anything?" He apologized for swinging at me and said his water was flashing. I said "I am going to the pond on the other side of this hill to bring you water." He thanked me but as soon as I turned around he hauled ass and was mauled by zombies lol. I really don't blame people for not being trusting though. I have been screwed several times. semipr0 402 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Because for every 1 person thats actually looking to help there are about 19 other jackasses looking to dupe someone into trusting them so they can lulz about it after they fraps it all and put it on the internet.DayZ was supposed to be a hardcore post apocalyptic survival simulation. What its turned into is.......COD with annoying zombies that get in the way.Its not even a case of people just not being able to trust any more cause they've been burned too many times.....its an established fact at this point that the largest contingent of DayZ players are simply killing other players for something to do...cause the whole "Survival" part of the simulation didn't get a lot of work and its not very fun.So most people just end up killing other players cause its the only thing to do. And a good handful of those people also do it because they think its hilarious. And its not like some new spawn on the coast isn't aware of the reputation this community has. When I first played DayZ I got chewed up by zombies in Cherno pretty bad, some guys with assault rifles came through where I was, killed the zeds, and actually gave me a transfusion and a morphine shot and got me back on my feet. But that was the last act of unsolicited kindness I've seen in DayZ.Since then...everyones a hunter. Everyone wants to be a bandit. Everyone that isn't you or your people is KOS.Its getting tiresome. I can get deathmatch in any number of games and most of them do it better than DayZ. Edited August 9, 2012 by semipr0
sonicrainbrony 136 Posted August 10, 2012 Both of you seemed to miss the fact that he didn't have ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING except the starting gear (well, so I suppose), and he disconnected. I would have understood if he ran from me to the zombies and got killed, but I didn't expect a disconnect. Was he so scared of losing his precious Kamenka spawn?Anyway, you guys have good points here, but you aren't telling me anything I don't already know (not to be an asshole or anything).I would write a long and a dramatic story about how I first started and everyone was friendly and then everything escalated into a deathmatch, but I don't have the time or will to do so. MoronToTheKore 57 Posted August 10, 2012 I dunno man. The most compelling moments in this game happen when you don't DC. I've never done it to avoid an unpleasent situation, and I can't help but think I'm getting more "experience" out of my thirty bucks than people who have a compulsion to protect their gear. sofaplayer@hotmail.com 22 Posted August 10, 2012 The only time i dc'ed was when, after saving my position inside a house, i connect the next day to instantly get attacked by zombies from outside the house through the walls. I found it unfair and decide to disconnect. It was one of my first days playing dayz and i learned that day that saving in a dwelling is not the best idea.I've never disconnected since then unless to log off the game or meet some friends on other server. Never in battle, never when having a train. And as the moron above states, the most gritting moments happen when you don't disconnect.Survival in this game is the ultimate reward. DC'ing kills that.
