NW Airfield

Like the others,iam a huge lover of the DayZ mod.Most of the videos I've watched are commonly about the NW Airfield.Can someone tell me what it is and why is it special.

Yeah for one the Northwest airfield has two barracks, more specifically the only two barracks in the entire game. The things that spawn at the barracks for example as in rare items would be GPS and NVG, including weapons of course. It is special also because it is HUGE. has about 9 hangers I believe with four loot spots in each, including a fire station, and a fire control tower. That place is very sketchy in terms of snipers being there I would suggest you keep it low when you move in. basically any military loot place is good, but this one is nearly the best.

Helicrashes are the best place to get good weaponry followed by the barracks and tents at Stary Sobor/Berezino.

Yes heli crashes are the best place to get weaponry, but on a daily basis the NWAF is the best place to get weaponry. I hear it is unlikely to find a heli crash once the server has passed the 10 minute mark, meaning they only spawn the first 10 minutes of the server being restarted/created.

Never heard of that, I seem to find them everywhere, and never just after a server restart. Are you sure you don't mean that they have usually been looted if the server hasn't restarted recently?

It has a barracks with good supplies and weapons in it. There can also be a heli crash site with a sweet weapon n' ammo.

Crash sites spawn at "random" places on the map (usually in open fields) and can have the best items in the game. The chopper itself is a right off tho so don't try to fix it. There's only one working chopper per server. Also if you've found it, someone else might have too and are camping in the tree line waiting for you to pop out.

NWA is the only place with a permanent chance of NVGs, there is the chance of finding them in the 2 barracks. The only other place that offers a chance of NVGs is crashed heli which is random.

Additionally, whilst hunting for NVGs at NWA you have a good chance of high end military loot in the barracks, hangers, air tower and fire station.

Naturally, bandits will camp this location and you will most likely bump into other players doing the same thing. Other players will be in the same situation as you, peaked and most likely will KoS. NWA is basically the wild west of DayZ.

High conflict point, unless you have a group or the server population is zero, is not really worth it. I prefer to hunt for bandit camps and raid tents. Perhaps one day I'll raid a tent with NVGs and I will have only been to NWA perhaps a hand full off times.

Ultimately though the majority of players manage well enough without the aid of NVGs, I'd recommend hunting for what you need in less populated towns and hitting up NEA (north-east airfield), no barracks there but there is an airtower and hangers.

Also to the OP in the control tower which is opisite the fire station and near the barracks and hangers it has a chance to spawn a m9 - sd these can also be found on the coast in the sw airfield

Which doesn't add up in my own experiences, I mean yes they will respawn at server restart, but they will still be there until the server restarts and changes their spawn location again. The only thing is I don't think loot respawns around them, so if you are on a high population server, then the chances are any Heli crash site will be looted before you come across it, or as you said, being camped out to see who else comes by. I've seen plenty of Crash sites, the best items I've found round them are the M14 AIM, M249 SAW with three 200 round mags, FN FAL, Ghillie Suit, L85A2 AWS, also a few lesser guns and some meds.

about nw airfield- high risk, high reward. be careful op, you really have two threats here- the server population as well as server hoppers/farmers. you can clear the area a hundred times over but it only takes one hopper to log in and ruin your day. best to go with a group or at least a pair so you have overwatch.

heli crash sites- found two so far at random locations, but both were in the stary area (between both starys). one was loaded two m14's, two fnfal nvg, 1 fnfal and ammo for all. however, the second one had nothing it seemed untill I crouch hobbled all the way around the chopper and puckef up an as50 with one mag, and a l85 aws no ammo. I think that perhaps this crash was looted but they missed this stuff because it was basically invisible or underground. or maybe they had full packs. maybe it was just a crappy drop... not sure.
