  1. 1. Should you be able to attack with the hunting knife?

Crowbar is a weapon? I can never hit anything with it. And I think the ideal is fine. You don't start with a hunting knife. The hatchet is good but what if i want to have a melee wep AND a my rifle.

So you agree that you want COD??

Or are you cool with having a knife that does "authentic"/"realisitic" damage?

If you agree that it would be a complete shit weapon and nearly useless then why do you want it in the game? It would be a waste of DEV time and resources.

It's not that you couldn't attack someone with a knife, I'm saying it wouldn't matter if you could/did attack them so why would you go through the trouble of implementing it.

So you and others can bitch that the knife isn't strong enough?

No thanks, just leave it out now rather than end up with way more complaints or even worse an insta kill weapon that works 100% against anything you can touch. Who needs bullets everyone's an epic ninja right...

It would one shot anyone without bandages probably. Their bleed to death.

I dont see any problem with hit detection as the way it would work is that the knife doesnt actually hit anything, it just shoots a very slow range bullet each time you stab and you get a nice animation.

Bingo. This is how the crowbar and hatchet work.

Agreed, they would have a significant oppertunity to do nasty shit to you in the time it takes them to bleed out.

God, you're fucking retarded.

Didn't answer any of my questions or respond to any of my points.....

Can I infer that is because I am right and you don't want to admit that you want insta kill touch attack kinves like COD?

+1,

yes your right......... " ArmA 2's hit detection is kind of whack"

but IMO a combat knife is a must for standalone. here is my wishlist while im at it...

  • melee attack at any movement speed
  • analogue control of movement speed, with the ability to creep super slowely, just like special forces.
  • silent/stealth kill eg. choke/stab
  • CQC hand to hand combat like mgs3/4, grab, throw, human shield, cut throw, interogate etc..
  • Hug tree and blend in like arnie in Predator
  • use mud and natural materials for camo
  • evasive roll all directions, or evasive hop while standing upright, to avoid fire at close range
  • climb objects, trees
  • Long bow
  • Footprints, making tracking possible

These are awesome ideas. Beans for you.

I don't see why this has descended to pointless arguing. Adding the knife as a weapon would be no different to having the hatchet and crowbar. It would just make for MORE melee weapons which I don't see a problem with. It wouldn't increase the focus on melee action as a gun will beat a knife 99.9 of the time.

Improvised melee weapons isn't such a bad idea to an extent.

Mr Two hates ice cream, puppies, and all things good. But he love sniper rifles.

TL;DR I don't want anyone carrying a weapon that can kill me, even if they have to be two feet away to use it.

On another note, I find it funny how much people complain about knife damage...but they never bat an eyelash at one-shot kills from .50 caliber weapons.

Well a .50 bmg is gonna screw you up pretty bad I mean if it can take out an armored truck then getting shot in the stomach is gonna kill you

But on the knife topic I would say 2.5k blood per hit hits slightly faster than axe half the range and 40-50% chance of bleed On hit

I go over this topic a whole lot on these boards because there's an unrealistic view of the .50 caliber round. The .50 caliber BMG is an armor-piercing round. That's why it takes out armored trucks. It's a very large caliber, but it's tiny compared to a shotgun shell and not much bigger than a FMJ .45 handgun round. A JHP .45 round would make a much bigger hole if someone put it in you than the .50 BMG.

And before we get into this discussion, there's no evidence that the shockwave from high-velocity rounds causes lasting wounds. It's an exaggeration that originates in gun porn circlejerks.

That is a very good and legit point but you gotta agree without almost immediate medical attention you're going to die if it hits you almost any where if some guy with morphine bandages and a blood bag thinks he can save you he's wrong

Please point out where I said that it would one-shot people.

So your fine with a knife doing "authentic" damage compared to bullets or an axe?

Lets examine this, a 9mm round does almost 900 damage, a FMJ round will break through bones and exit the body. A knife, even a "combat knife" not a "hunting knife" will do 4-6 inches of penetration via a direct stab and maybe an inch via a slashing attack. Individual attacks thus would be less damaging than a 9mm round, meaning you would have to hit a player character more than 15 times with the weapon and a Z more than 6.

Do you think this would be a usefull weapon or that it would serve a purpose in game and thus be worth the development time taken to implement the weapon and annimations?

Mr Two hates ice cream, puppies, and all things good. But he love sniper rifles.

Contrary to your point I eat ice cream while waiting for victims to snipe, and would like to use a box of puppies as a lure for victims....

I want an authentic simulation, not gamey content that has specific powers because it needs to be "balanced"

I agree that the damage/health system is kind of screwed and thus being shot in an extremity with a .50 means you die instantly. In the game's environment being shot in an extremity with a .50 would likely mean the loss of the limb (becaues it would hit bone and expand) and would result in a slow death from blood loss/infection even if the character was treated and survived the initial damage. Thus I don't really care that it one shots you. Also in an "authentic" take on damage the .50 is the biggest/baddest round IG thus it does the most damage. Because it works as anti material the engine requires it to do enough damage (raw number) to represent this, that is why it is so far and above the other rounds in its raw damage. This could probably be changed in standalone if armored vehicles are not included, but I don't really care as I said it would kill you later anyway. A through and through on the torso would leave an exit wound the size of a baseball at least, if at a far enough range there would be enough velocity loss for the round to expand on a bone hit and then your talking basketball size exit wound at least. Pretty sure you would die from one shot.

Here's what it does to deer

Comparing a knife stab to a .50 hit is pretty retarded

Nice troll attempt though
