How do SD mags work?

Never really understood how StanagSD mags work. Is it any gun you put them has less audible range? Is it only certain guns? How much does it decrease the audible range? etc.

From what I've tried out.

SD mags run in non SD guns are silent to zombies but not players

In SD guns It's silent to both!

afaik sd mags in an unsilenced gun make have the same audible range for people but the audible range is the same as a silenced gun for zombies.

Don't really suggest using subsonic rounds on non-silenced guns, since the aim can be a bit off.

In other words: Zombies cant hear SD-rounds fired out of a non-SD weapon. Player still can hear those shots like it's normal STANAG-ammunition.

Aim, damage, and effective range all suffer, I believe.
