ratiasu@hotmail.co.jp 122 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) So hacking got really rampant on our server today, despite the admin checking the logs more than actually playing. It is normal admin powers are restricted for fairplay reasons, but it's just not combinable with the amount of cheaters atm. When I swapped to NL101, even that server was on fire. Is it possible to link a rental server to Dreamhive/a private database, or does it require a privately owned server machine? Also, will 2*120 GB SSD's suffice for this? And how much bandwidth will it consume/month? Edit: CPU/ram should be fine. Thanks in advance, Edited August 8, 2012 by Ratiasu
NeedAFriend 1 Posted August 8, 2012 Don't bother hosting a server into the hacking is fixed lol, i've seen plenty of hackers get "globally banned" and they relog maybe 5mins later to nuke the entire server.

ken@thekab.com 37 Posted August 8, 2012 I don't believe DayZ Staff look kindly on private hives, so this is probably a bad place to post it. 120GB SSDs are more than enough. Traffic depends on whether the hive you connect to is local or remote, if it's local your traffic is going to go down substantially since that doesn't have to be sent anywhere. You're not going to be able to do this on a managed host, you'll need something like a VPS where you have control or a dedicated server.
Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) Private hives are not supported by this forum or the devs. Edited August 8, 2012 by Dingus
ratiasu@hotmail.co.jp 122 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) I see... That's kinda sad tbh. Bought Arma, definitely gonna buy the standalone, don't mind hiring servers. So it's not like I'm not trying to support the game, but yeah... it has to stay fun you know. At this point my clan is gonna quit, and then we won't be "supporting" either way. We couldn't do anything about the hackers, most weren't even showing up in the logs, the stuff they spawned, ranging from helis to Heat scope AS50's got picked up by legit players, whilst other unidentifiable hackers kept logging on.Thanks for the answers though!PS: Dingus, what anime is your avatar from?Don't want No longer able to support the official mod?Ask for support on the official forum!Fixed <3 Edited August 8, 2012 by Ratiasu

S1ippery Jim 139 Posted August 8, 2012 it has to stay fun you know.Really? A private server where you don't have to worry about bandits is fun to your clan? Interesting...

nicraM 137 Posted August 8, 2012 Do what you want, hackers surely are.I don't play on private hives cause what is the point? But, the devs have shown almost no support with the hacking going on. So, with that, do what you want. It is your game. Yeah, I said it.
ratiasu@hotmail.co.jp 122 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) Yuru Yuri, but don't derail your own thread!I'm done with this thread though, all that's left is the semi-related discussion flowing forth from it, which basic etiquette and interest forces me to respond to. Just like most threads which go past page one. Cheers btw!Really? A private server where you don't have to worry about bandits is fun to your clan? Interesting...We ARE bandits. =P A private database does not equal a private server, though that is also an option. As a combination, that is. Simply having people fill in a form which would automatically give them the password would keep the lazy hackers away (99% of them?).Please understand that I'm at the end of my rope here, I'm looking for a solution, as are many. If anyone knows of a better alternative, I'd love it. Edited August 9, 2012 by Ratiasu
