Thermal, Night Vision and Flashlights.

I feel Thermal and Night Vision Goggles/Scopes should be removed. Not because I got owned by them or anything, they just take a lot of the fun out of playing the game at night. Flashlights should be able to be attached/used with every secondary weapon so that everyone could use one at night right from the start. To use a flashlight on your primary you would have to find a primary with a flashlight, just how it is now, but more flashlight attached weapons should be added. We should also be able to jog without the flashlight flailing all over the screen, sprinting would still cause it to happen.

The L85 Thermal is especially lame, once you have it, you're basically no longer afraid of other players, at least that's how it is for me. I will see any living creature coming from any direction up to about 800m+ and could easily kill them before they even get close.

As for sniping at night, you would have to work with a group of friends, find players when they turn their lights on or throw flares/chemlights. You could have your friend shoot an M203 flare and snipe during the time that it's lit.

Keeping night vision on the rangefinder would be fine because then a sniper could know the range to the targets before he saw them, soon as the lights went on he could begin firing, this is balanced because the sniper is the spotter for his team and it generally takes snipers longer to engage their targets because they have to judge the distance. The rangefinder could basically be used to scout locations at night but wouldn't give any real advantage once the actual combat started.

The gameplay would be so much more intense, frightening and exciting at night without Thermal or Night Vision Goggles/Scopes. It would also make flashlights and other illuminating items useful.

tl;dr - Removing Thermal and Night Vision Goggles/Scopes, being able to walk/jog without the light flailing all over and adding the ability to use a flashlight with every secondary weapon as well as adding more primary weapons with flashlights would add a lot of balance to the game as well as making night gameplay much more exciting and frightening.

Also, This is coming from a player that has plenty of the items mentioned and has used them for a long time.

I agree with you.

But I think first of there should be a way to use flashlight without having room in your inventory.

I agree with the thermal vision being too much and the need for flashlights and stuff to be a bit more useful.

However, I don't see night vision being that big of a problem. Given the rarity (other than duping) it seems pretty reasonable actually. It's not like it highlights every player in the area with a nice bright marker like the thermal scope does, it just lets you see things clearer at night.

Which is both realistic and useful, especially if you don't want to attract every person on the server by lighting up a flare like you suggested.

I dont think they should be removed but they should have a limit of use like battery power.

That would be better than it is now but it still wouldn't solve the issue of how they suck a lot of the fun out of playing at night.

Green is just easier for me to read than the default.

for you it is easier to read dark green on black than white on black o.O? Where do you come from? lol

headlamps! I'd be ok with removing thermal, gives a massive scouting advantage and seems a bit like cheating... NVG, or a weapon with a night scope is something to strive for and isn't as unbalancing as thermal imo

Once the combat started the gunshots would attract players anyway. Nightvision makes all of the flashlights, flares and chemlights almost completely useless and at the same time takes a lot of the fear out of playing at night, once you have it.

Night visions isn't really unbalancing it just defeats the whole point of playing at night. Nobody without night vision wants to play on a night server because anyone with night vision has such a huge advantage over them. Coupled with the shitty flashlight system we have now, playing on night servers sucks without it.

Headlamps would be an awesome thing to add. It seems they could be implemented easily and could equip into the current night vision spot.

Thermal is just plain stupid to me, I thought it would be awesome to have but it just ruins the excitement.

100% agreed.

An issue with NVGs could be resolved in the stand alone with a sort of battery system.

Thermal optics could work if not attached to a weapon too.

The subtle grey begins to blend with the black and strains my eyes. White is good but if I post in white, when people reply they can't see my text in the quote.

oh another one of these threads...if anything they should make servers that dont spawn any of the super rare gear just for you babies who cry about stuff thats in the game..the items are rare if anything make them rarer like have 1 heli crash per server..they dont need to remove anything.

ALSO even if they remove the l85 its not going to stop people from hacking them in also thermal as50s

I get the feeling that even more people would avoid playing on night servers if they didn't have NVG... perhaps making a less rare "night vision monocle" that uses the binocular slot (have to pull it up to scout / cant use while moving) might be a better solution. Personally I love that this game has high tech tactical gadgets and would hate to see them taken away. I also like that you can see UV weapon lasers when using night vision.

I agree that batteries would make ppl use these items less and might be a better solution... would require alternate light sources if you want to save batteries, or if all you have is the monocle, you'll need another light source for fighting in the dark

have you tried turning your gamma and hdr quality all the way up?? no reason to use your flashlight if youre scared of dying also only like 3-5% of the players have nvg according to the devs..

If they remove them and hackers use them, the hackers get banned and kicked from servers just like they do now.

Like I said, I didn't get owned by them and I drop any hostile I see with mine. The point is that they defeat the purpose of playing at night.

He isn't crying, he said he has most of that equipment. Read the whole post before you start acting like a prick.

I guess vehicles with thermal imaging would be a natural predator for soldiers using thermal imaging for their night vision devices.

Edit: I.. I think don't want to fight people with thermal imaging scopes on their rifles where ever I go. I surmise that the importance of thermal imaging on the battlefield is one of those paradigms that currently is thought to resolve combat in an area. I guess in the end, such a paradigm will have to be viewed with regard to its context, where the scale of conflict or range of weaponry is factored in.

What you said about the monocle is exactly what I said about the rangefinder binoculars. If people could use their flashlights while walking/jogging without them flailing all over the screen as well as being able to use every secondary weapon with them, it would solve the problem of people not wanting to play at night. Also, knowing nobody would have such a major advantage over them just because they don't have thermal or night vision.

Nightvision overall just defeats the purpose of playing at night which makes playing at night a lot less exciting or interesting. It makes all of the other illuminating items pretty worthless and detours most players from playing on a night server.

Thermal is just stupid. I don't even like using mine because of how easily I can own anything up to 800m

please explain to me how they defeat the purpose of night...unless the purpose of night is to let everyone know where you are with flares...a sniper is still going to kill you even without nvg or thermal if youre throwing flares or chemlights.
