Sandbox, Team Based, Empire Building In Standalone

Recommended Posts

one problem I see though is that you are unable to take control of the place when the clan/player is offline. This is very easy to exploit by having "the key" on a second character that never logs in or something similar.

Right, well one thing could be that the "key" or whatever could be assigned to the clan itself and not a player. That way the first clan member to log in has the key. Once more than one member is in the key could be traded around.

Also if you stop playing all of a sudden no one can take over that area again.

Also the idea was that there be some time limit as to how long the clan could be offline before power goes "up for grabs". A few days or something. Also something to stop them from just having someone log in for a minute then split. This will stop clans from dominating a server then just moving on to another. This was someone elses suggestion not mine.

Lastly I thought that technically it COULD be possible to "break into" the headquarters while the clan was offline to loot and damage it but with the security systems being far more advanced than others in the game it would "cost" huge amounts of a players resources and possibly death to do so. This would naturally discourage other players from attacking while no one is there because the physical cost is so high and they wont actually be able to seize power

As I've said before, just mix Wurn with DayZ. :P

Looks like a cool game. Do you play it?

I played Wurn for a couple months. It was fun, but very time consuming. The creator of Minecraft made it before, so I think he started to put pretty much all of his time into Minecraft. Wurm is fun with friends, and a good concept. It could be better, but it's a pretty cool engine.

You just suggested Fortnite...which isn't a bad thing, just seems Arma 2 can not handle even basic collision let alone building your own base and have it work properly. This might be something added to the full game and not the mod

And officially the concept of permadeath goes out the window in favor of metagaming.

Also a new level of perma death could be introduced.....If your clan loses the object...every one starts over. Hows that for perma death? Now you'll probably say that's too harsh. Maybe but...with great power comes great responsibility. This make seizing power risky...do you realy want it? because once you hold....it's yours...and if you lose it...you're entire clan gets the perma death....Back to the beach.

You're talking to someone who considers tents and vehicle storage carrying over after death to be cheating. Believe me, you're way below my harsh meter.

If you like this Idea don't just give beans...comment or bump it so it doesn't get buried please.

So you start playing DayZ. You run around collect some gear, "survive", shoot some shit...then what?

You join up with or form a group, run around collect gear shoot shit...then what?

Well hopefully (soon) you build an underground base with security systems and agriculture systems.

You defend it, collect gear, shoot shit, attack other guys fort....then what?

First Thing...A clan\friend\family system will need to be integrated into the game.

This data can be collected and used to implement the following sort of thing.

1. Put a structure or object into the world that when captured (and while held) grants advanced

fort\city\resource management mechanics to the clan controlling it. I think an object would

work better because it can be held by a specific player so it can't be taken while clan is offline..(like a

structure could). This would be like a giant, persistent game of King OF The Hill going on within DayZ

a. The normal underground fort building mechanics would still be there for ALL players.

But to the clan holding the "flag" (maybe a government building or something like that)

To the clan holding the "flag" more advanced RTS City management option become

available.

Things like....smelting and forging for ammo & vehicle parts manufacturing

infrastructure for electricity and plumbing

Advanced agriculture options.

Advanced skins and vehicles to establish emergency services

The possibilities are great I think. Take the bits that can fit into this context

from games like Sim City, Age Of Empires, Civilization or any other cool RTS games.

b. The World Is Theirs...If the clan is capable they are free to expand their area of

control as far as they can. Of course other players\clans are free to attack, resist

infiltrate, subvert or use any means to wrest control away and into their own clans hands.

Or Alliances can be made (and betrayed :) woohoo). So much possible fun.

c. Ruling clan or clans (maybe there's more than one "flag" to be captured) can still do what

They want. Terrorize with death squads, oppress and horde or...

attempt to maintain a "safe area" for social interactions and trading, medical services, ect...

Ruling clan or clans need to manage resources and defend.

While the rest of us can plan revolts, form alliances, and build secret underground

base camps and scavenge to survive... Until we can seize power ourselves

Blood feuds will form, hatred and Jealousy's fester. Dynasty's may come to power.

Uprisings, rebellions, sabotage & espionage, betrayal..... All Out War!!!

All unscripted and created dynamically on the fly by US!!

Oh yeah, and lets not forget on top of it all Zombies & and infections that are an actual threat.

The only tricky issue is not having another clan seize power while ruling clan is offline.

One possibility is advanced security systems...electrified fences...mines ext.

Another is that the ruling clan could "hire" gaurds.

There is a chance that resources can be stolen or property could be damaged but power couldn't

change hands if clan is offline.

I guess I'm suggesting some government building capability.

1. The implementation is pretty simple

2. It gives players MORE control over creating the world and game play.

3. Provides an infinite "endgame". Always a reason to play.

4. Provide us with an EXCELLENT reason to work together (oust current government)

Or be loyal to it.

5. It doesn't dictate the way we play. But it does reward teamwork and or skill.

I agree with everything EXCEPT it being in the hands of some clan holding some arbitrairy building, we don't need one clan controlling everything and have people fight over this, it will end up with just fighting and no RTS ever being used. Give every player the ability to restore parts of the civilisation that was, and make a good resource system to go with it. Clans would still fight over the resources, but atleast they can all restore stuff ... there was a much better suggestion dealing with restoring civilization around not to long ago... it also had way more examples of things that could be restored by players, small groups or full blown clans or even alliences.

So please! Remove the king of the hill thing and you can have some beans...

Security systems? In a post-apocalyptic, zombie infested world?

ONLY if it's limited to vicious dogs, trip wires, and I.E.Ds.

Why not....there's motors, gas and guns.....a little human ingenuity and bang you got a security system. Where do think things come from? Hardware stores? Every thing on this earth comes from the earth......humanity started out with nothing but dirt, water, air and rocks. That's where everything comes from. C'mon now. :(

In WoW they have (or had) something like a base where it was horde vs alliance. Every 48 hours there would be a massive battle over the control of this area. This is the only way I can come up with that would work out. Maybe once a day, once every 48 hours or once every week the base would be open for everyone without a key. It isn't perfect though..

Human progress didn't occur until after we eliminated our natural predators; sabre tooth tigers and dire wolves. Security systems wont come about when you can't even step outside without zombies trying to bite your ankles, eat your brains, and chew your face off.

On the contrary...human progress happens in response to adversity....we don't build security systems because things are safe.

But regardless.....

Just because there's been a zombie apocalypse doesn't mean human kinds knowledge of science and engineering vanishes.

surely in the abandoned office, government and hospital buildings have the remenants of once functional security systems that can be

scavenged and brought back online.

So lets see. You scavenge your once functional security system and get it working. It goes off whilst your out. You come home to your base to find the alarm going off, the lights flashing, and hundreds of zombies waiting outside your premises, due to the fact they're attracted to loud noises. Have fun trying to get back inside.

I'm sure you list 100 things that wouldn't work. I'm not interested. I'm interested in things that will work. Well but someone needs to point out to me when something won't work so i can rethink the idea that's true....But I never suggested flashing light and sirens did I? That sounds like a stupid idea. You should be ashamed of yourself for thinking of it ;)

Nothing you mentioned is "sandbox" Its structured gameplay, the opposite of sandbox. The only thing we need is the ability to build, and we can set up fortifications around what we already see as valuable, loot spawns, resources, etc.

I do like the idea of moar traps though. Bring on the traps.

LOL...how is it not sandbox??? Please xplain. All I suggested was advanced building abilities....for the clan that "holds the object". All the scenarios i described were "possibilites" of what might happen. There's nothing structured about it. Please tell me how this is structured gameplay.
