Ewan123 7 Posted August 7, 2012 This has been a problem for ages but it's really annoyed me tonight. It's 22:37 GMT right now and I want to play a daytime server, so I search for "GMT-8" (14:37) and the first three I join are all dark. I don't mind night time servers, but if I'm a fresh spawn I don't want to run around Balota and not be able to see shit. Since when was it okay for server hosts to advertise different timezones than the one the server is actually in?
frydspl33n 2 Posted August 7, 2012 Get Dayz commander, it displays the real server time!
SmashT 10907 Posted August 7, 2012 Yeh it happens, in a perfect world the actual current server time would be sent to the server browser instead of having to rely on each admin to have the correct time zone in their name
SmashT 10907 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Get Dayz commander, it displays the real server time!No it doesn'tWhere does the server time come from?DayZ servers don't provide this information directly, but server admins often place the current UTC offset in the server name.DayZ Commander converts this to a more readible time and allows you to filter and sort on it.http://www.dayzcommander.com/faq Edited August 7, 2012 by smasht_AU

I think what happens is that the admin and their friends get NV goggles and just figure they'll change the time of the server without bothering to update the name. Until we can get the actual time displayed in the server browser, it should be part of the server rules that the advertised timezone must be correct.
Disgraced 1123 Posted August 7, 2012 The in game time is elastic based on a number of factors. The times listed in the server descriptions, which are, I believe what is shown by Dayz Commander, are just a note typed in. They don't control or necessarily reflect what's actually on the server. SmashT 10907 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Good luck trying to enforce that, if I was an admin and you made that a rule I would simply remove it from my name, oh great now no server even tries to tell you what timezone it uses Edited August 7, 2012 by smasht_AU
aphex187 52 Posted August 7, 2012 Our server UK31 is -6 UTC, so should stay light into the early hours of the morning.
