Linking GPS with your friends

So my friends and i thought it would be cool to link your gps with your friends so it would show exactly where they are and where you are, i know you can just say the cords, but a dot where they are should show up on the gps so you could easily tell where your friends are.

Could not find this topic in the forum search tool since it's a bugger to use, sorry if there's already a thread.

Indeed the GPS is somehow useless. Get a map, and its 100 times better (atleast on a regular / veteran server - with the waypoints). It's maybe handy for flying a chopper, i guess :-/

How is a map better? The GPS is a map, along with your exact location and direction your facing..

GPS is handy, and means you can pass your map to a teamate once you get one.

Having it on screen is handy, to shout co-ords quickly to friends for POI's, pick ups, etc.

If you have a land mark to judge off yes... If your looking for camps in the very north of the map however, when all you have is trees and hills, its fairly easy to lose track of where you are.. Get a GPS and hit RCtrl + M and you know exactly where you are and can direct your friends to the camp you have just discovered :)

If you already have a map, campass and so on (which most finds before finding an GPS) the only thing you'll gain is cordinates.

Nah, use your compass.. not really hard to use.

I preffer trading the GPS for a gun or something else I could need and just use map, watch and compass.

After my friend directing me up completely the wrong mountian to "meet up" with him, I wont go without a GPS, and more importantly, one for him too ;) I just like the ease of it, and I can have it up without leaving myself vulnerable as you are when looking at a map..Obviously you need a map also, to plan where you are actually heading :) maybe in a world where "rare" weapons and equipment were actually rare, it would pay to trade away.. But I have everything I could want.. except a quad bike :P

the gps would work great with a party system. first there would need to be a sort of party system where buddies are grouped into a squad, like in the original arma 2, then they would automatically appear on map and hud ONLY if they have a gps.

Seems like no one hardly understood what i ment, so i'll say it again. When you link your gps with your friend it should have a arrow or a dot on the gps screen the (ctrl + m) indicating in exactly what direction your friends are at. And to extend it even further you should be able to make marks on cordinates for you and your friends gps.

I like the OP idea.. I'd be all for it.. its not exactly unrealistic either so win win :)

I simply can't see the arguement that a GPS > Map .

Let me explain:

1. Map fuction to set a *Marker* anywhere on the map (Shift + Leftclick) - It shows how far you are away (-It can be used to judge range for zero'ing), also it shows what direction you actualy are running = West , east, north or south.

2. GPS is bad cus... well what is it actualy for, APART from giving you FASTER coordinates (etc 072 - 032). The map can also do that, you can zoom in to also read coordinates. (50% 50% here, maybe GPS is better for this, yer).

3. The GPS is simply too small to actualy see where on earth you are. A map shows with the help of a marker, to quickly identify where you are.

I don't see the GPS win here at all guys. But ok, it's just my opinion.

yeah, well if you got a gps it shows the cordinates.
