Nvidia and gtx 680 users

Recommended Posts

Iv recently tweaked my arma 2 to the perfect settings. Will specifically help gtx 680 users but may also help other nvidia users aswell.

Follow these few steps, Gave me +10 fps and got rid of those strange grey clouds on trees and objects at distance.

1) Download the latest beta patch from here http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php/ , It is better optimized for Nvidia.

2)Open Nvidia control panel, Manage 3d settings and set "ambient occlusion" to OFF, this eats fps for no reason, and is the main cause of those grey cloud things. Look through and change any other settings to "application controlled", or "let the application decide" if the option allows it.

3) Open C/Documents/arma2/arma2OA and edit with notepad. Change to the following. FXAA=17, PPAA=3, PPAA_level=3.

The above steps now have me on 45/60 fps on absolute maximum settings everywhere i go, including the dreaded Cherno and Elektro, and my screen is grey cloud free !

Hope this helps, Have fun and please leave feedback :)

Could a mod please make a ultimate Video options thread? It would be really cool to see what unneccessary stuff should be disabled (AA, Postprocessing)

I'm on a laptop with a GT 650m, but I think that I'll try it. At least the ambient occlusion.

Under the Manage 3D settings, can anybody tell me what the difference is in "Multiple Display performance mode" and "Single Display performance mode?" I think that I know, and I changed it to Single Display, but I just want to be sure. I've been out of the PC gaming scene for a while, so some of the settings are foreign to me. lol

Also, my file has FSAA but not FXAA. Same?

I believe multiple Display performance mode is for those of us who use two monitors while the other is preferred for only a 1-monitor setup.

FSAA is the in game option for anti aliasing. Update the beta patch for more settings.

Is it an m14x? If so that's what I'm running :)

Thanks, that's what I figured.

I'm running the latest beta patch, but in that file, there is only FSAA not any FXAA.

Close, its a Dell instead of Alienware. Its thew new 17R Special Edition. Better specs and bigger screen than the 14x for the same price as the base.
