Do you play DayZ with your kids?

Recommended Posts

I started playing DayZ last week while my two sons were out of town. I told them about the game when they got back and found out that they were already playing themselves. It seems I have two new buddies now. Since they share a computer, I can only team with one son at a time.

Here's the dilemma: one of my boys is a good player. The other, not so much. His idea of a good time is running into a town in the middle of the road while waving an axe. He rarely has anything of value and loses good items quickly due to his play style. He likes playing his way and doesn't want to play my "boring" way.

My style of play is much more covert. Since starting a few days ago, I've accumulated a ghillie suit, AK-74, map, watch, binocs, compass, hatchet, matches, morphine, canteen, revolver, etc. etc. I have decent setup, and I've no desire to lose it all while following an axe-waving teenager around Cherno. Although.... I know I'll lose it all eventually.

My strategy is to head inland and hit smaller towns when I play with him. Does anyone else play with their kids, and how do you deal with this? I've played other games with him, but none of them were PvP games, and none with perma-death.

I really wish I could have a second, disposable character. Then I'd grab an axe and go to town with him. :D

Its only natural to have a favoured child.

At least you know which one to use as bait if zombies do ever turn up in reality.

I have a son that plays also. Luckily for me we both have roughly the same play style. My daughter wants to try it out, and she's never really PvPed before so we will see how that goes, lol.

Forgot to add, you could supply cover for your ax wielding son. Setup outside of towns and scout, or sniper for him. Since he doesn't seem to care about getting killed, see if he wants to be bait. Let him go in first to agro zombies or attract bandits attention. Or if you want to be a bandit use him to lure people to a spot that you have a good shot on.

Beans to you. I'm setting up a second computer for them soon. Perhaps I should team with both and we can use our Axeman as bait. Great idea!

Why not buy another version of ARMA/DayZ so one can be played with one son and the other with the other son? :D

Or

Just ask him to be bait if he likes being a norse axeman :D

He runs in while you sit back and watch, if he get sniped...well dont go that way :D

Even though it's something the devs don't like to see, try playing on a private server that has its own hive - there you got your 2nd character. (DayZ Sanctuary...)

I think it'd be a good investment at this time to purchase another computer.

YUP! In fact... my 12y/o daughter and I play together everyday! Not shockingly... she's less of a bitch than most of QQ'ers here on this forum :P Have 2 other boys that will hop on once in a while... but they are more BF3/COD fans.

Here's a little clip... and sorry for the "cheese" :) Sadly, this game has turned her into a KOS'er!!! LOL... you can hear her "sinister" plan for the stranger we encounter!

EDIT: Oh... and it did take a few days of playing for her to "calm down" on her play style as well (even this is an older vid). She too likes being a little "careless" and will take dumb risks for loot (and usually crap loot). She's getting better now... and doesn't like having to run for 30 minutes to meet back up with me :)

The title of this thread sounds... wrong.

LOL... damn! And I answered all proud! HA

Dad behind you :)

HA... yup! I will say... it is a "strange" sensation watching your kid(s) die... even if just in a game!

I suggest you stop playing with your hatchet wielding son before you begin hating each other in the household, you never know, you might accidently call him a retard or adopted or something.

Cant wait till my son is big enough to play DayZ with me, although by the time he is 12, there might be something like DayZ 3, since he is 15 months old.

And that "dad, behind you" was really cute somehow :)

Next time you play with your axe wielding son, just shoot him in the face. When he starts to complain, simply tell him "trust no one" and eat his beans.

The first shot to the corpse may have been "just making sure" but I think that second was for amusement lol

There are multiple ways of having fun in a game like DayZ. There are also multiple ways of having fun in most other games. A game instance, where you want to do something that IS fun, but don't dare to do it, e.g. afraid from losing your gear, is not how a game is supposed to be played, just precisely because that is not fun!

Be as cautious as you always are and get the courage to go have some "other" fun with your hatchet-waving son! :D

Hmmm...if you had to sacrifice one of your kids to the chasing zombie horde who would it be?

My son is too young to play as yet but he has spied me playing and now he can do a mean zombie hobbler walk whilst chasing his sisters.

If I had kids, I'd be letting him watch at the age of 4. My father let watch him play games like Doom and Starcraft when I was very young, so I might as well continue the tradition.
