Do I need to update ARMA 2 OA to play Day Z?

In Day Z Commander there's a prompt to install the latest beta revision for ARMA 2 OA, and I'm wondering if I need to install it to play Day Z to its full functionality.

You need to update it to match (or exceed) the beta version of the servers you're playing on.

No. Plus at this time I'm.not sure a lot of servers have switch yet. I usually wait a couple days or weeks until I update arma. It doesn't seem as important as the dayz patch version.
