roscowgo 0 Posted August 6, 2012 I can't seem to find a specific answer to this question anywhere, but does effective range mean that I lose accuracy out past X meters, or does the bullet just magically disappear never reaching the target? If the former, does anyone have any ballistics charts for how the game handles projectiles? -Daemon- 14 Posted August 6, 2012 I don't have specifics, but I don't think bullets magically disappear. Had a buddy try shooting 400m with his M4A1 CCO SD, which should have an effective range of ~200m. His shots were going off quite a bit; high and low. I think you just need to manually compensate for higher ranges. It could also be gun specific, in which case folks may need some more information about which weapon you're using, and what ammo. wombraider 20 Posted August 6, 2012 It means the maximum range at which a weapon can be expected to strike a target and damage or destroy it. The bullet will not dissipate by any means but the bullet will deviate from the intended path closer to the maximum effective range and beyond said range. Aka harder to hit your mark when outside of said range.
Baka Survivor 20 Posted August 6, 2012 I don´t think it has to do with accuracy as much as with full damage. Bullets do not disapper, guns are variably accurate at or beyond their effective range, but the damage of the gun is reduced beyond its effective range. For example, shotguns with pellets are fully effective on up to 40 meters, beyond that they lose their 2000 pts damage/pellet. Some of the pellets from Remington are still going to hit the target beyond 40 meters for sure, they are just not fully effective anymore. M9SD´s effective range is 75 meters, but the gun is very, very inaccurate at say 40-50 meters. AKS-74U has effective range of 200 meters, Kobra 300, still Aksu is more accurate at 300 meters because of its good iron sights and kobras terrible "holo" blob sights.Maybe I´m wrong though, not 100% sure about this. roscowgo 0 Posted August 6, 2012 Thanks for the info. Do we have to worry about windage along with drop and travel time?
ThatGuyCalledReptile 314 Posted August 6, 2012 Thanks for the info. Do we have to worry about windage along with drop and travel time?Drop and Travel time are both accounts.Windage is not added in game I believe.
Draug (DayZ) 0 Posted August 7, 2012 The bullet also loses velocity over time due to air friction, so it does less damage outside of optimal range.
