Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted August 6, 2012 In order to protect players from abusive hosts and host based cheating, only accept new servers from trusted managed hosting providers.-No direct access to server files.-15 Minutes delay before restarts (to prevent the two minutes "rollbacks") automatically announced ingame.-No passwords or locking (according to the server host term of service).-No ability to enter the admin panel ingame. Before the inevitable flame war.../me puts on her fireproof suit.My suspicions is that a lot of clans are hosting a dayZ server for personal gain instead of providing servers for the community. I suspect a lot of them are actually cheating through various methods, from kicking all non clan members, to simply failing to report cheating done by a clan mate.On top of this, the new log parsing trend is simply unacceptable, under the guise of fighting cheaters some admins took upon themselve to review every single piece of data going to and from the Hive. Which means that any player tent/vehicle and whereabouts are potentially compromised. Fighting cheaters doesn't mean becoming one.
krtshv 362 Posted August 6, 2012 /support.There are way too many reports about abusive admins and servers out there. The legit admins shouldn't care about this addition as they don't need any of the above options (-except- maybe file access, to read logs). Now let's wait for abusive admins to QQ. digital0 22 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) As an admin I would support your restrictions. I'd say remove all admin privileges. Let the community pay for all the servers through donation and only the dayz staff handles server maintenance.Depending on how much money the game makes, that's the amount of servers we get.Edit: To elaborate a bit more. Then we're all in the same boat again and all the cheating issues go directly to the DayZ staff. Plus I don't have to invest 50 bucks and feel like I bought a sack of angry cats. Rudson (DayZ) 61 Posted August 6, 2012 Just to many players! You can´t just select the best, we - the non adminfolk- need clans who pay for the servers, sure there are so many clans doing what they want, and it sucks. But at the moment without the clans i don´t think everybody could play the game!It is up to us, looking for a good place to play. What could work would be a system where every player pays about 1$ per month. makes 40$ for a 40 slot server. So all servers would belong to rocket and the dayz team. No adminabuse, no stress.I would pay, it wouldn´t hurt.so long Rudson.
hsmagnet 14 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) @ Lady Kyrah who would be the "trusted" providers? the lot that provides servers now are definitely not to beAs an admin I would support your restrictions. Plus I don't have to invest 50 bucks and feel like I bought a sack of angry cats.in a perfect world, maybe.there are not enough dev staff to do what they need to do now.there is no way they could manage even a small percentage of the current servers.thus there would only be a small number of servers if they managed all the servers.cheating would still be rampant as client scripting is a integral part of the engine and injectors bypass pretty much everything used to keep tabs on the servers Edited August 6, 2012 by HSMagnet
mikhail 65 Posted August 6, 2012 half of the "admin abuse" reports are bs. I think the op's "suspicions" are way over blown.
CoRe*RedFisher 15 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) This argument has gone back and forth on these forums for quite sometime. I know from our server we have had a lot of complaints because we actively work to ban hackers. We do this through submitting the logs of the player in question and letting the mods/devs decide if the code is a hack. There is no way to stop the hackers as of right now. This would include the admins of a server and the players of a server. However by suggesting that you would cut the servers down and have the company run the servers will lead to less time for the company to develop the game.As for the logs most people do not know how to read them in as much detail as you and others have suggested. Yes i am sure there are some that know but the majority do not. I can say our self we know very little about the codes in the logs and submit them for review by the staff of the game. They do not always jump right on it but can say that we have had some support to the fact of bans.If you are looking for a hosted server that the admins do not cheat then i suggest looking up any of the three servers *CoRe* gaming community hosts. We hate cheaters/hackers as much as the next and have been around for the last 12 years. We host servers on a wide variety of games and try to have a fun and fair gaming atmosphere. If you search these forums you will find posts from some known hackers commenting on their frustrations to our admins for catching their cheating. We can not force people to play on our servers but do encourage those who want a server where the admins have not given up or are not cheating to come join us.www.coreclan.net*CoRe* Gaming Comunity Edited August 6, 2012 by CoRe*RedFisher
Frozen (DayZ) 144 Posted August 6, 2012 -No passwords or locking (according to the server host term of service).i guess locking server via password, should automatically disconnect server from the hive, without future reconnect.
Pure (DayZ) 7 Posted August 6, 2012 This is why it is a great idea for Rocket to tell Bio to let them see the names of people getting killed, you were killed by "this person", or "this person" was teleported by "this person", or the flying cows are being created by "this person". This would tell you who is mass killing people or anyone that is cheating and then the admins can ban these people and Rocket can perma ban the ip's so these people can not re purchase DayZ. As you already know you can se the persons name on friendly fire so why not just make it so everyone can see what everyone is doing from the HIVE? Simple soltuion would not be hard to just code into the Battle Eye.

Making a killed by wouldn´t make the game better, your not supposed to see what killed you and i think it is just fine the way it is. Who killed who should maybe recorded in the background only visible for the BE team or by admins. They could send the GUID to BE if BE doesn´t record it as a cheat/hack whatsoever.
