liamcz@hotmail.com 98 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) Good evening Survivors and Bandits (It's in the evening here - deal with it B))With the 1,000,000 unique player count just around the corner, I'd just like to announce that I, Rammfisch, will be creating a full blown survival guide designed for beginners AND more experienced players. In case you don't care enough to read on, just know that I will be working on it along with a few friends to create this masterpiece in literature :P.Updates on how it's going along will be added to the thread as I go along. It won't be some 1 page load of garbage explaining that you need to eat & drink to survive, and how to pull the trigger. I plan on working on this for a few weeks give or take to make it as pristine as possible. It will cover pretty much everything, and I'm open to suggestions on what to add etc. - Help from the community is essential! The survival guide will be set up in a PDF format (not some shitty word doc) and will contain chapters on all the essential things to know. I'm not some noob with little to none experience with the mod, or even the actual game ArmA 2. I have played ArmA 2 from release and I began playing DayZ back in the days of when you started out with the .45 revolver, so hopefully that gives some credibility.Anyway, so far whats going to be in the guide will be as follows:- Spawn positions and where best to go from there including that position on the map (image will be including).- Basic spawn positions for all the essentials in the starting towns (image will be included)- How the zombie's... Operate. (movements, view/hear distances etc.)- How to stay alive concerning other survivors (or god forbid - Bandits) - Can't really guarantee success on this one though.- Advanced, in-depth analysis on weapons and projectile ballistics.- Weapon spawn chances in certain buildings (image will be included)- How to navigate with & without basic navigation gear.- Where to go for what reasons.- Vehicle repairing, finding and driving/piloting walkthroughs as well as emergency procedures.- How to shoot (this may sound stupid, but many people don't understand how a lot of the open sights/scopes work).- How to conserve necessities (ammo, food, water & med suplpies)- What different symbols mean - how to fix them, how the basic game operates (inventory etc.)Obviously much more will be added and I'm open to any criticism and suggestions. I'm not looking for any hate comments and it is not necessary as this is just a little free addition to everyone in the DayZ community. grezvany13 56 Posted August 6, 2012 I really like your idea, however I suggest you keep it more general. Please do not add "best routes to walk for the best possible loot" or loot-maps with vehicle spawn locations.Rather create a real guide where you teach people what to look for, instead of telling them where to go."Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."You also might do the same thing I'm currently starting: giving ARMA2 and DayZ in-game training. At the moment I run a private server (ARMA2, not DayZ) where I invite friends and clanmates who just started playing. In-game, with help of our TS3 server, I teach the basics of the engine (walking, shooting, navigating, etc) without fear of behing chased by zombies or other survivors. I also teach them some more advanced topics like teamwork and stuff, but that's optional. Then I restart the server and let everybody spawn at different locations in Chernarus (just like DayZ). Now they should be able to meet at a meeting point we checked out earlier. When nobody had problems finding this place, we all disconnect and go to an empty DayZ server and do the same thing. After meeting again, we all go to some known locations as Electro and Cherno to teach the known loot spots (like churches, supermarkets, hospitals, etc.), although I let THEM decide where to go and where to look for. I only give them hints.Within a day they're ready to play all by themselfs, without any form of "cheating" and managed to pick up a decent starter kit by playing together. And I always suggest to read the ARMA2 Bible: http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/
wombraider 20 Posted August 6, 2012 If it is all you talk it up to be you shall receive beans! The community could use something like this for the newer players in particular. The learning curve is fairly steep. I personally had a rugged start a few weeks ago. But the DayZ I know today is a whole new level of awesome as I researched and picked up on the many more important aspects of the game.

A valuable asset to the ArmA community :P

grezvany13 56 Posted August 6, 2012 Another suggestion, and this is towards anyone who can, is to create a singleplayer/coop training mission with some simple tasks, like: "find a hospital in Cherno" or "find a tent somewhere north of Electro".This can be easily done by the in-game editor, if some help from the developers is recieved (requires some DayZ codes like Zed stuff) and the ability to use SP within DayZ (so the mod files can be accessed).Currently my "training" is simply in vanilla Chernarus where all players spawn at the same location (with some custom gear), but could become much more with the right coding.eg.- you spawn at the beach between Cherno and Electro.- near the spawn you'll find a fire range, obsticale course and- you'll recieve some tasks and a detailed explanation at the briefing screen. (maybe make use of the tutorial function in ARMA2)- Electro is "zed free" and can be used to learn the different buildings and loot locations. Also perfect for teamwork training.- Cherno is a "danger zone". When you're nearing the area (eg 500m from border) the player recieves a message "Watch out, zombies ahead!". After 250m the zombies will spawn and a task will appear like "go to the following locations: hospital, church, offices, harbor and firestation".- tasks like "repair the vehicle found at grid 000 000" or "reach the air control tower at Balota" would be usefull for surviving. These are just some random ideas I come up right now, but you'll get the idea.It basically learns the player what they should know before entering the dangerous world of DayZ. grezvany13 56 Posted August 6, 2012 BTW.... you might check the guides at http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Guides_%26_Tutorials which contain a lot of useful content provided by the community. If you would like, you could create a page (or pages) on the wiki which can be filled with information by others too. I could help you set up; like giving access to upload images and stuff.
Zarathustra (DayZ) 87 Posted August 7, 2012 I'm not sure how much use this is when the biggest threat to player survival is cheaters/hackers/script-kiddies who cannot be avoided.
