vetrox 16 Posted August 5, 2012 So been doing a spot of brainwork. I dont see hackers very often but the few times I have are always at really awkward points in the game (just found a good gun or just repaired a car)I have been looking at ways other games deal with hackers. I recall seing a counterstrike system where you download a piece of their (third party) software that checks to make sure none of your game files are altered in any way. (I dont know how this works though)Then I had another Idea. Could we charge people (Say $5?) to sign up to be able to use a server, or group of servers? So for example Im vetrox. Im sick of hackers. The generic gaming clan has 5 servers but to use those servers you have to pay them a few bucks and sign up to their forums to get it?. Sure the odd hacker may have $5 to ruin someones day but is he going to keep spending $5 each time to teleport me across the map.Its quite late (and im still aware this is still in alpha) but maybe some sort of system like this for the more die hard guys. Maybe profits could be put towards development of the game.
Dankine 377 Posted August 5, 2012 it's the fact the engine is so open to having scripts injected that allows these cheats to be used. this is what needs to be addressed.
norreka 45 Posted August 5, 2012 prob is that this is on purpose for modding and creating new missions :/
ODoyleRulez 195 Posted August 5, 2012 prob is that this is on purpose for modding and creating new missions :/Yea. But I am sure they can modify it so Dayz restricts this. Restrict scripts to server side only.Battle eye is simply not a good solution.
Zexis 127 Posted August 5, 2012 I don't like the idea of paying for servers, not with the hive system DayZ uses. Too much potential for abuse.
SmashT 10907 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) Private servers already exist for free, you just need to signup on their website for access. While a hacker can do the same, most don't bother when there are a thousand other unlocked servers to harass that don't require a password. mac 80 Posted August 5, 2012 It's because arma is made to allow scripts to be used in order to customize missions and such.
GhoXen 0 Posted August 5, 2012 The only servers which manage to deter hacking to a significant degree are private hives with anti-script scripts. You can only fight fire with fire. Of course such things aren't available on public hives.
random51 172 Posted August 5, 2012 (edited) Yea. But I am sure they can modify it so Dayz restricts this. Restrict scripts to server side only.Doesn't matter how sure you are, you'd still be wrong. It isn't DayZ that needs to be modified. DayZ(and ArmaII) itself is mostly those scripts you're trying to prevent running. Without the ability to manipulate those scripts in any number of ways on the client the game and mod themselves don't work.To use an analogy, the foundation of the house is the problem. Nothing you can do to the house is going to fix the foundation. Redoing that foundation while you've got not just DayZ but ArmaII sitting on top of it is a monumental task. A monumental task that probably doesn't seem even remotely worth it when you've got ArmaIII coming out this winter. If there was an easy and/or quick solution they would have already jumped on it. The most likely "solution" at this point is going standalone so they can do away with the legacy issues of ArmaII and the engine it runs on. Curiously enough you might note that Rocket has been talking about going standalone quite a bit lately. ;) Edited August 5, 2012 by random51
NotYou 13 Posted August 5, 2012 it's the fact the engine is so open to having scripts injected that allows these cheats to be used. this is what needs to be addressed.Standalone, or nothing. This "mod" is being built upon a bad system (for a game like the Mod is trying to create). They only way to fix that is to find a different engine, or create one like they are trying to do.As it stands, the game is rapidly losing people (I haven't played in over a week), and patches are not going to magically fix it. they need to find a different engine (game) to Mod or release the standalone before their reputation gets hit too badly.I'm also sure fanbois will stay regardless, and the hackers, they'll stay too until it's only hacker versus hacker like BF3
Yeni 53 Posted August 5, 2012 I don't want to pay 5$ to play a free mod.
Larkins 38 Posted August 6, 2012 What if everyone pretends the game shut down then they will leave. Good idea?
