Obsolescence 129 Posted August 5, 2012 I have several questions about where to place tents:How far away do people normally place them away from loot / areas-of-interest? 1km? 2 km? 5km?Do you need vehicles to make use of tents, because they need to be placed so far away? What types of items do experienced players normally play in tents? Guns? Ammo? Only rare items? How much room do people normally have in their inventory when they make scavenging runs? Enough to fit a primary weapon? As always, thanks for the help. g12oome@hotmail.com 6 Posted August 5, 2012 With the way tents glitch at the moment, it doesn't really matter where you put them, if they were all working correctly, somewhere as hidden and out of the way as possible..
h3retic 224 Posted August 5, 2012 with the latest patches (as of 1.7.2 i think), the tents that are placed off the map are whipped out on a regular basis. this means that these days, chances are that ppl will place tents all over the map (especially on the edges of the map).u can easily run all the way up north without needing a vehicle.most usually, u will find generic items such as med supplies, food, ammo and more rarely weapons (ppl tend to have weapons on them)i usually drop off all food and a bit of ammo in my tent before actually going back to looting (approx. 8 slots free = that with the 24 slots coyote backpack; one gun in hands, and a 2nd gun in the backpack)if u decide to place a tent, it might be a pain in the ass because placing tents in this game is not as easy as it is in real life (u can only place it on level ground and u cant put it inside of a pine tree, so to speak)

Having a tent close to loot areas will just lead to it being found. If you could get a vehicle, it would definitely make the whole situation better. You'd be able to have your tent(s) way out in the middle of the nowhere, and not worry about someone finding them. But then again, if you had a vehicle, it would basically be a tent on wheels.I put everything in a tent. Weapons, ammo, food, etc. When I go on a scavenging run I empty my pack (ALICE), and only carry a primary weapon, map, compass, one food/drink, painkillers, morophine, and a bandage. That way I can maximize my loot intake. No problem.
Varadain 3 Posted August 5, 2012 I have several questions about where to place tents:How far away do people normally place them away from loot / areas-of-interest? 1km? 2 km? 5km? Depends, Usually its good to have a tent with basic supplies not to far away to retreat to in your favorite area. However if you wish to store some more important items often times in plain sight works wonders. but often you might wanna find an out of the way area at least 2 squares away from an area of interestDo you need vehicles to make use of tents, because they need to be placed so far away? Not really no. Tents are great for quick resupply spots if you get used to hiding them, Vehicles *Depending on what you get* are mostly used for mobile storage. What types of items do experienced players normally play in tents? Guns? Ammo? Only rare items? Primarily only ammo and supplies such as food and drink. Vehicles are primarily used to stash rare items as they are mobileHow much room do people normally have in their inventory when they make scavenging runs? Enough to fit a primary weapon? An empty backpack and at least 5 active slotsAs always, thanks for the help.
g12oome@hotmail.com 6 Posted August 5, 2012 You can place tents on uneven ground and trees, you open up the gear, right click, pitch tent, it will give you an error, leave the gear open take a tiny step backwards and repeat, keep doing it and it will pitch, that way you will be able to get it alot more hidden putting it amoungst some trees. tiptoptopper@gmail.com 244 Posted August 5, 2012 My tent took about 20 mins of jiggling about before I could place it under 2 pine trees and in front of another. (3 pine trees together make the best tent hide.) The first few times I returned to stash some phat lewt I thought it was gone. The low branches cover it almost completely.I have a bit of everything in there.
thomas.bowyer@hotmail.co.uk 25 Posted August 6, 2012 you cannot place tents on uneven surfaces. however, by doing the above 'step back/fwd/sideways' method, you can hope to find a tiny pixel or two of flat ground. thats how most get pitched.
amaROenuZ 144 Posted August 6, 2012 I keep a tent near the airfield, and one farther out, in the woods. One is for convenience's sake, standard weapons and ammo, food and water, etc. One is full of the rares.
