Mass transit system

Why not utilize the railroad tracks for a player transit system? Have a train that runs all day and night, only stopping at set number of stations for a minute to allow people on and off. Maybe, you can only use it once an hour, day,...etc. Or maybe you have to find coal or some consumable as random loot to access the transport system.

No this would totally break the game.

The whole having no short cuts and making decisions regarding where you go based on your resources is critical to the pacing of the game.

Cars are worth it when you find the parts, but if it was super easy to get it would break the game as well.

In a powerless region with no infastructure how does a train work?

Automated system? Players bring thousands of bags of coal a day?

Bottom line is in a failing or destroyed region any "public" anything is Gone. Luxuries like mass transit are gone.

They are called hand cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handcar) not sure if they have been made for OA. Unlike the train mods that have been made.

It would be an obviously dangerous choice to make. But it would be a choice to move quickly from one area to another. Perhaps more spares to make one and once its made it could stay on the system.

Not a ridiculous idea to transit, probably just a ridiculous choice to use one....
