US 1485 Banned for flying the helicopter.

A group of us found a helicopter fully working in a field on Server 1485. After flying around for 2 hours, an admin logs in and bans 2 of us inside the helicopter for "Spawning in a helicopter". Apparently this Lackluster Admin didnt get the memo about helicopters Returning to the servers. Admins name is DN Lucy.

Edit. The Admin only banned two of the three people who were in the Helicopter. We Also Stole Her PBX with the helicopter After she logged out in the middle of the water. After finding her PBX missing i guess she thought up a trumped up charge to ban us.

Second Edit. Your not getting your boat back, so you lost both of the best Vehicles for a week.

The chopper you guys found was NOT legit (we have the legit one stored elsewhere in the map, and yes, I checked to make sure it was there before issuing the kick)

I saw you guys flying around, since you were the only ones in the server at the time that weren't in our teamspeak or friends of ours, it was obvious you guys were the ones flying it.

In order to ensure the safety of our server (and our investment), I KICKED (not banned) you. I even tried to do this while you were still over land (although I think you may have respawned near the docks in Elektro)

Please understand my point of view. Whether it was you who hacked it in or not, all of us are at our wits end with hackers on our server, it's getting pretty bad.

Either way, I apologize if this caused any inconvenience to you, and if you add me on steam, I can see what I can do to compensate you for any losses you may have incurred. My steam is phonix247420.

Long story short, I didn't kick you because you stole our helicopter, I kicked you because you were flying a hacked in helicopter during a day we were being bombarded by cheaters.

Edit: For the record, I was aiming at you the whole time with my AS50 and NATO rounds. I could have easily just shot you out of the sky and killed you all. Instead I gave you the benefit of the doubt and kicked you so when you respawned you'd still be alive. I wasn't aware you were carrying a third person or I would've kicked them too.

Second edit: Oh and that pbx, not ours, we put that on the coast for noobs a week ago because you know, we're nice like that.

I call BS purely on the fact that you had to edit your post numerous times Lucy, which is probably because the 1st couple versions might have been even more unbelievable than your current one.

You say that you had sight on them the entire time with an AS50 when he said he was flying around for 2 hours huh? You must have some amazing sight with that gun.

You say that that the 2 in the chopper were the only people online that weren't in TS with you or were your friend.. Yet they had a 3rd person in the chopper.

How exactly did you know which 2 were the ones flying it? How did you guess correctly? You could have kicked someone innocent. You contradict yourself so much that I have to believe that this is a lie to keep you out of trouble. Try proof reading before you post.

Btw, I have been kicked numerous times after doing something that displeased an admin such as killing them/stalking and stealing their vehicles and it is really sad at how much you people abuse your powers when we are all just trying to have fun.. Now i'm not saying that you are 100% lying.. But your awful story is really suspicious so I don't believe you.

Just a side note, being nice and offering compensation won't get you out of trouble. If this really did happen, you need to accept the punishment and not do it again.

My best advice is- If you see someone driving/flying a hacked vehicle, take the shot.

If you had, none of this would have happened.

Meh, in hindsight I just should have killed them all. For the record though, the other posts were edited because they were irrelevant to the current discussion. It was basically a flame war with Phayzon, a player from our server, he apologized for his statements over steam and retracted and edited his posts so I deleted my posts criticizing him.

Don't make assumptions, please. I hate how the majority of people think admins abuse their power for evil or some other conspiracy theory crap.

And how the whole community is so quick to cast judgement on the people who are making it possible for them to play this game by purchasing servers to support the mod and the community.

I'm one of the fairest and nicest admins you'd ever meet. Last night me and my clan travelled the coast giving out free items, not just cooked meat and tin cans either, but high level guns, nv goggles, gps, etc. We actually fixed up and repaired 4 cars last night and just gave them away to people, loaded with gear, as incentive for them to call our server home.

As for your statement "You must have good eyes to spot them". Ummm, I was in Elektro's northern hill, they were flying around Elektro..... I play with AS50 along with NATO and m107 rounds at all times. There were 8 people on my server, 5 of which in my teamspeak. I saw 2 people flying the heli. Two of the people on my server had the same clan tag [JG]. Put two and two together.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt by kicking them, if I wanted to play the stupid assumption game I'd just 'assume' they hacked it in (which really, they probably did, then got butthurt when an admin kicked them, funny how nobody considered this) then ban them permanently, spend an hour combing through my server logs (as a player you wouldn't understand how convoluted the server logs are, and make it next to impossible to gather evidence against cheaters without a proper parser) then reported them to DayZ staff and had them permabanned. But like I said, I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyways, I'm done defending my decisions. I only posted here to provide clarification as I feel I don't have to justify my actions regardless.

Admins are not allowed to ban or even kick players for use of a hacked item. You must prove that they in fact hacked in the item. You are also required to post on the forums who you kick/banned, why and the proof.

To be fair to the admin, there are so many hackers about I would imagine that they generally just assume that someone flying around in a hacked chopper must be a hacker.

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment.

They pay for a server and allow other players to use it, they are fighting a constant battle against copy/paste script kiddies who think they are clever for ruining the game for everyone else. For the most part their hands are tied, they can't perma ban and they have very limited tools available to them to deal with the constant barrage of vermin infecting DayZ . All they can do is ban people from their server, the script kiddies will just go to another server and a few hours later more little shits turn up and they have to go through the whole process again and again and again. I am surprised they don't all just jack it in, where would the legitimate players be then? Do people even understand that the servers are paid for??? (around £50 a month afaik)

In this case it seems the admin just kicked you from the server when they could have either got you killed or perma banned you from their own paid for server. If you didn't hack the chopper then just put it down to bad luck, you happened to find a hacked chopper and had a couple of hours fun in it. If you did hack the chopper then you should just crawl under whichever rock you came out from under and leave the rest of us to enjoy the game.

They have even said that they are willing to compensate you for any loss that you may have incurred (which I total up to a grand total of nothing) which they absolutely don't have to do.

Anyway, in short, wake up and realise that the admins, for the most part are decent people who are paying for us to be able to play the game, a totally thankless task. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule but to be quite honest this one comes across as a pretty decent person who has gone out of their way to explain their actions to you when they could have just told you to bugger off.

I'd also like to say that on numerous occasions in the past, after having DEFINITIVE proof of hackers, we wouldn't ban or kick them, but submit the proof to dayz staff (in fact, we state that we do this in our MOTD). Over the next few days after submitting these reports, the same players would CONTINUE to come back to the server and continue to hack in items or nuke the entire player base. We finally decided "You know what? If the DayZ staff won't do anything about this problem then we should take matters into our own hands in order to protect our investment"

I'm also empathetic to players who do not own/host a server, as they don't understand the massive problem we deal with on a daily basis. It's quick for you to fall back on the 'server hosting rules' but remember these rules were made long before DayZ became the massive hit that it has become. The scope has changed, and so should the rules.

Not an hour ago I was on the coast picking up a friend when I spotted two people also on the coast. I watched them with my OWN EYES spawn a helicopter not 50m from me, they both hopped in, took off, then started firing from the gunner seats at us. I quickly switched to my AS50 NATO rounds and shot out their rotor. Since they were so close to us, they came crashing down on our heads, killing my friend and i, and themselves. I quickly got ready to kick these players, but of course before I could issue the kick, they just ran a script to kill everybody on the server in one fell swoop then just disconnected. Everybody else on the server was in my teamspeak (like 8 or 9 people) and you should have heard the sigh's of frustration, it was kinda maddening.

What did I do?

Of course I took the server down, and added their IP's to my bans.txt file and restarted the server. Bye bye hackers.

Believe it or not something like this happens at LEAST twice a day on our server. It's becoming a real pain in the ass. And of course ever since this thread was posted, it has made our server a target for hackers on some "If they thought THOSE guys were hacking, I'll show them hacks" type nonsense. So instead of these threads helping the community, they end up painting a big old bullseye on people's servers.

Such a fine line, I wouldn't be giving the admin too much grief on this, they have explained themselves in a manner that shows they are not asshats, should be more like them.

The war with the hackers is unfortunately one that we as a community are losing, it gets very frustrating I can imagine to admin a server like this. In CoD and most other games you can go into a "spectator" mode and watch certain people if you suspect them, but not in this game, it's a bit of a guess at the worst of times, and there are bound to be mistakes, it's unavoidable.

Why post a ban appeal if you weren't even banned? The admin did the right thing in my opinion. They weren't power tripping, they were simply ensuring their server is hacker free.

Not cheat related but it pertains to your server....

After reading this thread i decided to join your server miss admin. i spawned outside elektro, one of my fav sniping spots.It was night.... Not far from me 2 ppl. One in ghillie, all sniper looking and his butt-buddy freshly spawned i guess.No tags were visible on neither of them. Good news was that they hadn'd seen me, since i spawned 25-30 meters proned and next to a tree, bad news was that one of them was telling his buddy, over voice where to find a boat load of tents so he can gear up. Somewhere north of Novy Sobor (074 - 07..something. I am at work and don't have the exact coordonates). So after 15 mins of listening to them i waste them, courtesy of NVG and an M1911, since my DMR is to loud...loot their bodies (i want to say thanx for all the food and water ghillie man had on him among other things, like a GPS, range finder and a coyote backpack) and "hide the bodies"....

next thing i know I am running there....and running, and running....first town empty, second..empty...third has a bike...huraaahhh....

anyway, long story short i get to the location, spend about 1:30 - 2 hours combing the whole quadrant (or map sqaure, however you wanna call it). End result? I find them tents (all loaded with stuff) spawned under branches and all (which makes me wonder...because everytime i tried on other servers to place a tent under the branches of a pine tree i couldn't), get what i need and proceed to happily run over them with my bike (do any of you have any idea how hard that is?)....fun times...

Overall, i can say that whoever had those tents lost over 7 G36 - haxxed weapon i guess, MP5SD, M4 silenced, Bison...helluva lot of ammo, 3-5 M16, M4's...there were at least 3-5 assault weapons of each kind in almost every tent....2-3 of each sniper rifles, MG's, food, but no Ghillie suits...

that is what annoyed me... HAXXORS, Y U NO HAVE MORE GHILLIE SUITS THERE?

really now...you have all weaps and no suits?

I know that camp, I also know who it belongs to. I believe those weapons were found in another hacker camp or ammo box and then moved there. It's not uncommon for us to go into a major city and discover these weird 'US Ammunition Crates' just full of gear, some of it doesn't even belong in DayZ. Legit players end up taking that stuff and storing it away or using it, and frankly, I have no problem with it, since it's hard to control, and if you refer to this thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/46844-hackers/ and read post #8 you'd see why we let this slide.

You could have added me on Steam I would have been more than happy to give you a Ghillie suit!

Oh and by any chance was your player name Daniel? Because I was in that area when only a 'Daniel' was logged in besides us, and I was about to pop him since he looked like he was flanking me, but when I decided to move up, he got scared and logged off. If so, please refrain from combat logging in the future, it's pretty cheap. My initial reaction is to usually help people out, shame.

I had to edit my post. When i wrote it it was 6 AM and I had to get ready for a double shift....

My ingame name is I_R_TROLL (same one i've had on Mgftw.com l4d2 servers). While I do appreciate your offer for a ghillie, i still feel reluctant to show my face to ppl in Dayz. the countless times i was KoS'd whether i had any gear or no gear at all kinda makes me want to stay away from all human.

I do play a lot on NL 13 and 20 (Mg's Dayz servers) and i have a few stashes around the map. So far they are safe, so getting replacement gear is not an issue. That time i was referring to in my post, i was feeling lazy and didn't want to spend almost an hour of running to get to my cache, so i thought i could find some at the haxxer site

as for haxxed weapons...all i can say is that I like my AS50 and don't have need for another :). So far i have good gear, let's see how much it lasts me :)

My post wasn't really for admin abuse but I was angry at one of Lucy's group members and I wrote that post because of it, quickly I realized it was foolish and apologized and removed the post.
