Try this before posting your computers specs asking if it will play the game.

If someone tells you yes, and your computer runs it like crap you will be out the cash and be pissed off....

So PLEASE verify for yourself that you can play DayZ before buying it.

1. Download Arma 2 FREE: You can do this using steam, if you dont have nor want steam, you can get it here http://free.arma2.com/activation/
   
2. Install Arma 2 Free
   
3. Play Arma 2 Free
   
4. Is it choppy?
   If NO: CONGRATS, You can play DayZ!
   If Yes: try lowering video settings
   
5. Did lowering the settings make it Playable?
   If Yes: Congrats you can play DayZ
   if No: Sorry but you wont be able to play Day Z.
   

After you have Arma 2 Free installed and you determined that you can play it, you can either buy Arma 2: Combined Operations (Arma 2 + Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead expansion)

OR!

thats weird, I would not have bought a game if the free version didnt run at all on the pc lol. kudos to you for being ballsy and having it pay off for whatever reason.

arma 2 and AO working like a charm mid high-settings 50-60 fps. dayz forest:30-35. small towns 30 and big cities 15-20. :(

i am sure it all will get better but its anyway time to upgrade. rig is 3.5 years old. graphics card 1.5 years.

arma 2 free version had some performance problems on my build or it was because i had a 260 that time. cant really compare but the game is mostly CPU heavy i heard, so...

I dont get amazing performance, but I get pretty good performance and my laptop has an almost nonexistent gfx card, but I have an i7 and 16GB ram, and my gfx card piggy backs off the CPU and Ram.

Very true about that site. It said my comp could run Escape From Butcher Bay, and it lied, considering my comp can run most anything I throw at it. Given that particular game's age, it didn't give me a good view of the site's estimation features.

I hear you, I'm running DayZ on a shit Dell Optiplex 360 with 4gb ddr2. This PC has one of the first generation dual core processors and a cheap low profile fanless Radeon HD5450. To be fair, it runs the game at 20-25 fps in a town swarming with zombies but I have most of my settings set to high or very high. Works well, just have to be careful about getting into too much conflict, a lot of on screen action drops my frame rate to around 10-15fps.

Why is everyone having so much trouble playing this game? I didn't think the requirements were that high? I'm playing with every graphical setting maxed out and I don't have a uber-good video card, mine is 2-3 years old. I do have a 3.6GHz processor and 8GB of ram if that helps but usually these games require a video card.

Alot of times there are other things effecting gameplay. Memory munching background processes, malware, spyware. Also believe it or not...sometimes disabling some processor cores helps. I had a dual core processor when ARMA came out that couldn't run the game. When I disabled a core in the affinity settings it ran like a dream. This went for several games.

Game Specs often tell you need a multi core cpu to play a game, but really they are just trying to drive the industry and keep people upgrading to latest shit. Some older game engines are not optimized for multi core cpu's
