MrBlue21 4 Posted May 25, 2012 That's right another beta patch for Arma 2 OA is out. Change Log:[93156] Changed: increased gear MP messages priority http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

spofny 3 Posted May 26, 2012 I have the Steam version of Arma2 + OA and it doesn't seem to want to update to this beta patch automatically. Since almost all DayZ servers are on this version now I cannot play. Any way to apply the Beta on the steam version?
Taloft 0 Posted May 26, 2012 Download the beta, run it, then launch via the beta shortcut in your OA folder. Cake.
Callow 1 Posted May 26, 2012 What's the point of this exactly? I have a Steam version of OA, have never installed one of these and I've been playing DayZ fine.
Keunus 0 Posted May 26, 2012 Yeah Can somebody please explain what the Beta patches do? And why are there so much beta patches? Will the beta patches be merged and released on like for example steam later?
oktyabr 53 Posted May 26, 2012 Yeah Can somebody please explain what the Beta patches do? And why are there so much beta patches? Will the beta patches be merged and released on like for example steam later?Yes, beta patches are still being tested, etc. before being declared "final". Final patches (non-beta) are automatically updated in steam. You can either wait for the patches to become stable/final or you can do as mentioned in several threads here (check the New Player section) install the "beta" patch and go with that. Can I only make use of the patches when the servers uses them also?
oktyabr 53 Posted May 26, 2012 How does that work for people that did not install these patches? Can I only make use of the patches when the servers uses them also?Beta patches are *supposed* to be backwards compatible meaning that if you install the beta patch to play on a beta server you should still be able to play on a non-beta server as well, without changing anything. stevejeon 0 Posted May 26, 2012 The beta patches don't do anything to your actual install. If you have steam your original game version will exist at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\arma2oa.exeThere will be a separate short cut (in that directory) called 'Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch' pointing to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exeTo make the beta patch work just copy the shortcut to your desktop and use that instead of steam. It should pick up the mod automatically.
Taloft 0 Posted May 26, 2012 The advantage as I understand it, is you can use the beta client to use your microphone for direct communication with others nearby. So if you see someone, you can say hi without opening a chat window and typing.

Then I wont hesitate :D
