Yeah I would say wait on getting a server just yet, maybe see what happens with the standalone and also see how we all go and see how many stick with us.... then it could be worthwhile if everyone happy paying out each month

I started looking at getting a server set up for another group of players a couple of weeks ago ... its not too bad as far as the technical side goes ( although, theres a lot of perussing dizzying log files looking for hackers, and such ), its mostly a money issue.

Servers are anywhere from $50 - $70 a month for 40-50 slots. Not bad if we have enough ppl to keep them up and running. Though, not everyone can afford even $5 a month extra ( sometimes, thats me D: ) ... so its something we could certainly do, but with the knowledge that it could get a bit outta hand time, and money wise ( but Im up for it :] ).

We could also set up a private hive server. That would solve a lot of hacker, ghosting, and server hopping problems, though they still obviously accure on occation, we could stiffle it quite a bit. And the public could still come on ... which I want. I played with some folks that locked their server down so nobody else could join ... *yawn*

Lets see how the group builds itself, and if it looks good as far as some of the logistics go, Id be happy as shit to get our own servers, and maintain 'em.

We should also stay aware that the stand alone version could be coming soon ... that could impact any decsion to jump into this mod with servers and stuff. Might be better to wait it out a bit ...

As you say servers cost money and not everyone can afford it, myself included. It will just lead to resentments in the end, been there with fancy clan web sites/hosting etc. Also having a locked server would be just a waste, while we all hate hackers, DayZ wouldn't be Dayz without bandits etc. If you can't fear death then whats the point imo?

I'm hoping the Standalone will fix most of the hacking, stop script kiddies mostly, there will always be some clever arseholes around but thats the same in any game on any system. :)

Anyone know why this thread is broken and doesn't appear on front page anymore?

Had a great time running around getting sniped and hacked with everyone today. Great group of people that play friendly even when they shouldn't and many times pay the price. It just sucked that we ended up playing on something like 4 different servers and got hacked on most of them. I think a private hive or maybe switching to Lingor Island for a trial run might help make it more enjoyable but in any case I still thoroughly enjoyed myself. You get to the point where dying is half the fun lol.

I wasn't so friendly i shot that dude in the barn, after the three of us spawned in Electro, after 30s. I don't care, no "friendly" etc and they die, not that it made any difference to the hacker as he/she had god mode on. Luckily they were friendly and dropped quite a bit of kit.

Roll on the standalone version :)

The best bit for me tonight was everything from getting shot and meeting up again.

I wonder if the lady in the barn who had NVGs and seemed to have god mode was spawning a backpack etc.. they didnt make to shoot us but didnt try to avoid us... Its moments like that, that make you wonder if they are hacking etc, surely the point of the game is other player interaction, to be standing sorting your gear out when being shot isnt interaction

I think we will learn from our mistakes ( 1 other person on the server apart from us, sure they will be at exactly the same spot as us ) and we will start working even better together with overwatch, not dancing at an airfield etc... its going to be half the fun and the other half is someone letting off a gun by mistake and scaring half the team to death going " What was that....omg omg"

It was a bit of a disaster last night. 11 experienced, mature sensible players against one sniper, and who do you think won ? :D

Oh...well....it made the heart pump a little faster !

Maybe we need some sort of strategy in place for these type of situations.....

It's certainly better than playing alone. At least you get a few minutes of excitement before you die.........................

Haha, yeah, we made several basic mistakes in that situation. But that's ok - it may take us old fogeys a bit longer, but we do still learn things.

It was a blast though. Especially the moment when one of us came back from dinner just in time for an adrenaline dessert and saved the day. Go Taterhead!

Unfortunately the game tends to have a way of slapping an anti-climax on your success - after heroically saving the truck, it disappeared after the next server restart. Ah well, such it goes.

If you play in large groups you will be attacked by hackers. Often, they don't bother with a few but a server with a dozen people on will be repeatedly attacked. Battleye is worthless junk, despite it's proud self-advertisements for how great it is at banning hackers. Sounds like you had a lot of fun. You seem to be playing after I'm in bed but I don't think I'll be seeing much of you! :thumbsup:

Problem is we were having to work out his location and aim for someone prone that we couldnt see, he could see us and take us out in his own time...next time if we have 2-3 on overwatch with thermal and range finders.... then smoke grenade near the truck ( wuold need to test with thermal vision ) and maybe two at the truck firing prone towards him and then overwatch positioning him and either going for the kill or slowly moving around hiding behind trees.. take our time... We just got caught out and hadnt thought out what to do..

Well the fact it was 11-15 of us and one other player and they were in the exact spot we where makes you wonder... but we could have also played better as he wasnt spawning stuff or usual hacking.... as to time we play, alot more of us are on throughout the day so you should be able to meet us ingame......

I have put a forum on www.fogeyz.co.uk and anyone is welcome to join up and post..... trying to add a chat box so its easier for us to pass information without alerting hackers we are on... for instance someone could have read this thread, knew we went onto 180, saw lots of FOG or OLD in the names and known it was us.... or we were just dang unlucky

39 here from the UK, I've posted about wanting to find players to team up with me, have my own teamspeak server and am toying with the idea of buying my own DayZ server should I get enough people joining me, all that said I am quite willing to join up with some like minded players for raids etc when they need more bodies so please add me to the list (if there is one)

It was a hacker they tried to give her blood, Ghillie suit, bike. Then just chased her around while she ran from them. In a bandit skin with no weapon. She did try and shoot them but 20 rounds of AKM did no good.

Found it pretty unreal sat in the back of the truck with another 8 guy's, kind of epic, like an old foegey's road trip lol. :P :D

I thought we had a couple of guy's with thermal, did no one spot him? I know a few of us shot at him when we saw the muzzle flash, I was behind a wall with Azrael, couldn't take a shot without having my head taken off though, not that it made any difference lol, should have just rushed him guns blazing, was enough of us to take him out with the possibility of only losing a few.

I finally logged out early this morning after losing control of my character, couldn't look down my scope, then I got up and started marching on the spot, these hackers are just dumb! How did the rest of you get on in the town?

Tried joining you guys last night for a bit but could not find the last server (US 9) you were on in the DayZ Commander list. I did jump in TS and try to talk but apparently my mic no longer works...Time to shop a new headset this afternoon. :)

Will give it another go this evening, should be on sometime around 9:00 pm EST.

33 Scottish and could be interested. I'm kind of an idiot in this though. I usually blow myself up or stand up at the wrong time and get everybody sniped etc. Also just now I have a bandit skin from hanging around the wrong crowd :blush:
