Do Helis have radar?

Recommended Posts

Last night I was up near the NE airstrip, pitch black, all quiet, no one around and crawling by a few Zeds. Then i hear a chopper come flying past, I think "cool" but I'm behind a wall and staying still in the shadows, so i''l just wait for them to pass or whatever they choose to do and I'll get the hell out of dodge. Suddenly the chopper stops, Turns round and basically zeroes in on me like it knew exactly where I was.

I think Ok maybe I'm being paranoid but nope thus chopper crew decide to have fun chasing me and to be fair it was pretty exciting, until I found I can't lose them no matter what I do or where I go they know exactly where I am. Suddenly I'm thinking how can they know my exact position if its pitch black and they keep losing me from their spotlight and I'm running through trees and round buildings?

I finally made it to some thick trees and they still knew exactly where I was and kept shooting. Suddenly I'm booted for high ping and I think "well was a nice few weeks that guy lived for" as I had no doubt while it was disconnecting me I'd have been made into Swiss cheese, though when I eventually got back into a server I was actually fine, so I lucked out there.

So do they still have radar as I heard this was disabled in the last update? or was this a hack? or are they using 'the force'.

They do not have radar, even if they did, "people" dont show on radar, only aircraft, vehicles and tents.

With graphics on very low, its very easy to see into forest and bushes since barely any leafs show, they probably just spotted you.

Cheers, That's kind of a relief as I'm all for being hounded, as long as its not hacking, as it was pretty thrilling to be hunted down. To be fair I actually wished they got me rather than being kicked off, would have been a very cool way to die and the way the pilot handled they chopper I reckon it was on the cards I'd have probably met my maker.

What was odd is during all that neither the chopper or I aggro'ed any Zeds.

I think its the fact they saw me behind a wall that confused me, it seemed kinda odd.

probably what happened is they aggroed on you, then the chopper, then de aggroed. All zombies do when the aggro to a heli is stand under it lol. Edited by JESUSARIUS REX

Inside a building is only place you can really hide if they are keeping an eye out. Like other guy said with graphics turned down you can see everything from a helicopter. You can fly over a forest and pick out every tent at a glance since the trees are defoliated at low settings.

Do not use shadow as your hiding spot, a lot of people disabled shadows in game!

so when you think you are hiding in the shadows you actually don't :murder:

Even with graphics up, it's very easy to spot someone, if you have NVGs.

They probably initially spotted the zombies. When you travel in vehicles/aircraft zombies don't spawn, so if you spot zombies, you know someone else is on foot in the area. One of my friends tried to parachute out of my chopper, the chute bugged and he fell to his death. Although he jumped from a fast moving chopper and crash dead into a forrest, it took me less than 30 seconds to find his corpse, hovering over the forrest.

One the other hand, we also spotted a car with headlights on, we thought it was easy pickings, but the passangers exited the car with the engine running and the headlights up and the lights completely drowned out our NVGs. I don't know if road flares would have similar effect, but if they already have a bead on you, maybe it's worth a try.
