krtshv 362 Posted August 3, 2012 Ok, this is a suggestion so state your mind (and to prevent breaking the DayZ forum attire, you may flame me for my opinion).I was thinking that perhaps a new, extremely rare loot item should spawn in military locations, perhaps only crash sites - A Piloting Manual. This would be required to pilot (Pilot, not shoot or get on) the Huey.Thinking about this logically, the vast majority of the survivors will be plain civilians with no military training whatsoever. Shooting a gun isn't that hard without training, driving a vehicle is something you get used to pretty quickly when you don't have rules to follow and don't need to worry about what's that thing you're running over..However, piloting a helicopter is not something just any person can do. You have to learn all the instruments and controls, how to handle the helicopter, how to land and take off with it, how to adjust rotor speeds and everything else.Sure, realistically, you would need a person to teach you how to do it (or in some cases, Microsoft Flight Simulator), but going with DayZ, a Piloting Manual would have to suffice.

ivan keska 39 Posted August 3, 2012 Ilike this idea but it should be consumed or used up to prevent it being this items that is rare yet super common because it just keeps getting recycled through people.

BrettHarrenton 29 Posted August 3, 2012 Not the worst suggestion but realistically a random guy could attempt to fly one.

krtshv 362 Posted August 3, 2012 Not the worst suggestion but realistically a random guy could attempt to fly one.If I give you a heli in real life right now, would you seriously attempt to take off, knowing full well you will most likely crash face forward into the ground?Sure, if a person is being chased by zombies, why not, he'd attempt to, but he would still crash, lacking the knowledge of how to actually take off.Do I even need to include the text?Well, if you're trying to say it's a bad idea, then you might aswell say why ;)Let's make a forum poll and see how many people actually know how to pilot a helicopter in real life, shall we? Jean Jacques Serrault 37 Posted August 3, 2012 Like the idea when the item is in toolbelt and not consumed. This will add "a bit" more realism into the game. Nice one!
Firemac 41 Posted August 3, 2012 Well, if you're trying to say it's a bad idea, then you might aswell say why ;)Ugh.... Why the hell would you need to focus making a Pilot Manual? It would be useless you know why? Because HELIS are already close to impossible to obtain, even so I think this Pilot Manual is just a lame excuse for people with helicopters to keep them safe so that nobody can steal them. Also if u could put more effort to SOLVE problems we have today in DayZ, it would help alot more.

Heiduk 265 Posted August 3, 2012 Not the worst suggestion but realistically a random guy could attempt to fly one.Clearly you've never been in a helicopter. Technically, a random guy could also attempt to fly the space shuttle but that doesn't mean his chances of success are greater than 0.000001%.Sure, if a person is being chased by zombies, why not, he'd attempt to, but he would still crash, lacking the knowledge of how to actually take off. Most people probably wouldn't get the chance to crash. They wouldn't even be able to find the fuel shutoff switch before being eaten alive.I support this idea and would also propose requiring a Maintenance Manual before being able to repair helos. Just because you can change the spark plugs in your Ford doesn't make you an aviation mechanic. Helos are a huge asset and should come at a huge cost.Nontransferable skills like Rocket has talked about would probably be a better way to address this but I think manuals would be a workable short-term solution.
