Complaints about X is too hard

Recommended Posts

Since I started playing this game I've seen lots of comments/suggestions regarding changing how the zombies move, their speed, their risk of hitting you unconscious etc. A lot of people also want better weapons at the start of the game, weapon-nerfs to make pvp "better" ... you name it.

The most common mistake that people make when they play this game is that they expect it to be just another fps-game. They assume that blood works like "health" does in other games. "WTF A ZOMBIE HIT ME UNCONSCIOUS WHEN I HAD 9025 BLOOD" is classic.

In the context of a zombie-apocalypse, the game IS about realism. If somebody would hit you in the face in real life, you could pass out even though you didnt lose any blood prior to the punch. Right?

It has happened to me several times and I agree that it's frustrating but it's not the games fault. It's MY OWN fault for going in there like that and not being careful enough. You make mistakes and you learn.

I actually really like the huge risk of dying to one single zombie because you know what? It feels real and cause panic when a lot of zombies get attracted. You COULD get knocked out, you COULD get a leg broken. The risk is always present.

PVP is what players make it. Some people kill on sight, some dont. Keep away from large cities if you dont want to die to other players. It's a risk you need to take into consideration before going into Elektro or Cherno.

If you die a lot you are probably doing something wrong. Patience and being careful pays off. Get a knife, matches and an axe and you can go hunting in the woods. Scavange the farmbuildings for supplies and soon enough you can head north. Use shift to sneak and keep an eye on your noise/visibility.

The minority of people that dont like the game are the people that are most visible on this forum. I LOVE this game and the realism is what makes this game so good and original. I agree that it does have flaws but I would never want to dumb it down so that it becomes another arcade type Zombie-game where the zombies are just an annoyance instead of something to fear.

If you want mutated infected and easier zombies - play Left 4 dead.

If you want to spawn closer to where you died - play World of Warcraft.

If you want to go hardcore pvp along with who killed who messages - play Arma 2.

If you dont like the game, stop playing it.

It's [YOUR] OWN fault for going in there like that and not being careful enough, [so learn to play the game by the existing rules, before suggesting changes]

This thread maybe valid sometime down the road. But remember its alpha. Blah I hate when ppl say that too.

The fact is the game is hard.. and that is the best part of it. But, there are also, many many bugs too.

So put in the fact that the random zombie from 200m will take off like a bat outta hell after you while you are prone and not moving.

And that invalidates all the things you say in your post about people bit_hing.

So stop playing the fanboi card and start looking around at all the bugs. Telling people to play another game is not going to sovle the problem that

there are bugs and many of them to boot.

But, one day all your points will be valid but, today they are not. Sorry.

Your post was great right up till here. This is an Alpha. While I am not one of them, other people who don't like the game in its current incarnation are quite welcome to say so, as the game is not yet feature complete.

I did acknowledge that there are flaws in the game and I get what you're saying. Bugs need fixing. The thing is that most people that complain on this forum seem to want a fundamental balance-change to how the zombies work. They want static numbers like "you should only be in risk of getting unconscious after you get below X blood".

The thing is that those people only say stuff like that because they dont EXPECT passing out after being hit at 11k blood. They get mad about it and make a post.

The result of this? Worst case scenario - zombies get easier to kill and avoid.

Realism is not for everyone. There are other options if you dislike it. I am not telling everybody to f- off.

I have a hard time thinking of one thing in the game that is realistic... that said it is a fun game and that is what matters to me. That said I also play L4D and most other zombie games... they all have flaws and all have things I like.

That said I dont think they should overcomplicate the game to cater to people who dont have a life. I actually think that for the most part this game gets that right... it knows when to abstract, when to simplify and when to cut corners to keep it a game.

The weapons aren't realistic. They're straight out of "Generic FPS 2012TM".

But the other systems are great, and that keeps me fascinated. Especially seeing how it's developing and how much is getting added. I never fail to be impressed by what Rocket and team keep putting into it and have planned for it.

I think a lot of people complaining are also, deep down, thinking about how little sense some of the game mechanics make and they just don't know how to voice those concerns. Like the sniper rifle issue. The reason sniping seems to throw the game so completely off balance to many is because it doesn't fit with the realism of the rest of the game. It's an archaic mechanic from when FPS's had tiny battlefields with very little cover so game designers had to increase the lethality of sniper rifles to make them more effective compared to other weapons that, in the real world, would kill them in seconds. It's a conceit of VIDEOGAME LOGICTM, an invention by design.

Unfortunately, in retrofitting VIDEOGAME LOGICTM to a realistic game setting with hunger and temperature and bleeding, some of these relics carried over. So snipers get Finger of GodTM up to 1.5 km away in forests on mountains overlooking wide open city streets and their weapons make almost no noise. And guns designed for personal defense that reliably drop people with one or two shots now take 9 or 10 shots to kill people. Because videogames, that's why.

So some things are fantastic and other things are just completely incongruous and throw you out of the game.

Yeah. This thread is mostly good but SERIOUSLY. Zombies most to fast and act to eractic. They run left and right constantly. Their zombies not super humans. They charge STRAIGHT at you and are either very slow or can run but still SLIGHTLY slower then you. They strength comes from numbers and surprise. They should NEVER win in a straight up fight if i a gun and there is only 4 of them. But this is not difficulty this is bad AI and animations Dayz teleported me outside a window and broke my legs once. Once the game is properly patched it will be fine. But most of the complaints come from cheap things killing them. Like zombies hitting though walls, legs breaking randomly, etc.
