Vehicles shouldn't be rare. Let the experiment continu.

Vehicles need to become less rare in general, they are overly rare right now without any reason for it, they aren't THAT gamechanging. Pretty much every server has had groups collecting all of the vehicles and hiding them in the forest, so 90% of survivors never experience them. Up until 2 days ago when I found a stashed bus, anyone watching the 30 days of this life and all previous lives of mine wouldn't know that vehicles were even in DayZ.

I don't see what would be so bad about having a bigger supply of vehicles, or having a short-ish respawn on them. And throwing another 30 or so instantly workable vehicles across Chernarus. The downsides of being a massive loud target are still there when in a vehicle, so they would still be risky. It would just be good for more lone survivors to experience them.

Also, Bicycles should be considerably more abundant, every town should have 1 or 2 Bicycles, it makes sense, virtually every home has a Bicycle, they should be one of the most common 'vehicles', quiet, but they leave you unprotected and have limited or no storage space. (never seen one so I have no idea if you can store crap in them)

zombies dont spawn when youre driving around

see zombies = know somebody is there = time to hunt

also it takes all of 10 minutes to drive from bottom of the map to the top

i think it is a great idea to make vehicles more common but fuel much rare, it would really call for more player interaction beetween "well-developed" groups on the same server

Vehicles arent worth the effort.

every day we find them. and everynight we lose them. Its good and bad, but I mean, we found the helo on our server. as did many others. we had to fight and die to get that bird flying. took hours, and 10+ manpower. (farming parts) we also lost a vehicle doing it (only a motorbike tho) so, we take it to a safeish clearing. cheer a job well done, hard fought and won.

10 hours later... soembody logs in.. and its gone. somebody found it, flew it. and crashed it within 2 mins (from the wreckage we estimated 2 mins) - so, what was the point?

we have cars/bikes/quads etc, and lorries, and they never last.. they come and go. we fix them up, and they get stolen or the really sadistic people blow them up.

It seems that helos are the new clan top tier goal. whilst vehicles are the secondary.

I myself dont harm enemy vehicles. ive come across a hilux or two (crappy 2 seater, no use to a big clan) I take what I want from it.. maybe shoot out the tires. but I wouldnt blow it up :P

I agree, more bikes, please. Bikes aren't a trouble, rarity, or coveted item.

As for vehicles? I'm actually an advocate for less. I see vehicles as a sort of bad mess waiting to happen. When you get a vehicle, you have no reason to stealth anymore, so you just run and loot, getting more and more careless with your play style until you finally die. And then what? You're stuck with that careless play style with nothing to run back to, so you die. A lot.

Not to mention, I'd like to NOT see 10+ some cars driving by on the road in a supposed barren wasteland of a post-apocalyptic setting.

  • More cars (2-3x what they are now) and keep them banged up like they are.
  • Fewer gas pumps, there are like 12 just in cherno but only chance of 3 vehicles to spawn in there.. it should be other way around. 12 cars and 1-2 gas pumps in the major towns then a few scattered around the map - somewhere between 6-8 in total.
  • Able to take petrol out of other cars even though they are not driveable.
  • Driving a car should aggro like a motherfucker in towns and have zombies being able to do damage to them, something like if you plan to speed through cherno there is good chance your car won't make it through in one piece.
  • Parts should be harder to find.

Basically it should be the hunt for gas and parts not for vehicles, just look at almost any post apocalyptic movie, tv-show, game, literature, etc. it's almost always that way which makes more sense than how it is currently.

I think mebee complete and running vehicles should be pretty rare. but vehicles in varing stages of repair could mebee be slightly less rare?

I like the that cars are not around as much so when you do hear one it reallys peaks your interest.

I was raiding the NWAF by myself at night, and was watching from a distance. I heard a car in the distance and really got my blood going. I was ducking and covering and getting out of site.

I just heard the sound of it, never saw the car.

What a cool experience. But I agree that fuel should be rare. Or maybe jerry cans..

i like the suggestion in the OP....

however the main problem is how vulnerable the vehicles are... it means that people are less likely to drive their vehicle knowing that it can be heard from 200-300 metres away and anyone with an AK can destroy you with relative ease.

if you were more 'safe' in a vehicle then people might actually drive around a lot more instead of bogarting them.

the best solution would make some kind of benefit to not shooting people on sight. because right now there is none.

another solution would be to make vehicles 'bullet proof' UNTIL the hull has been destroyed (i.e. you can't be shot immediately through the window until the car has already taken a large beating). the added protection would make the vehicle a nice comfort instead of a ticking timebomb.

I can agree with this. Jerry can spawns are fine as of now, but fuel should be way more scarce. Trust me, I know.... During hurricane season, and when one is inbound, gas is the first thing to go here...

Hint: You suck at hiding vehicles.

Our group keeps them for ~15 days on average.

As to the OP, rarity is good. If they weren't rare, they wouldn't be precious; and if they aren't precious, people will have no reason to risk their lives acquiring and defending them.

Keeping them rare gives veteran players a scarce and precious commodity over which to fight and vie for control and dominance. It's the only end game we have. It gives us reason to hunt for 90 minutes at the end of every night for that perfect hiding spot because you don't want to use the same one twice.

Take it away and all we will really have left is murder; and people seem to feel we've got enough of that around already.

And trust me just because you don't see them doesn't mean they're not being tested.

They attract to much attention, get blown very easily, get stolen all the time, you have to find parts to repair, hard to drive in towns, have to stop on places to fill up the gas.

It's just a really big chore. The concept is cool but there are just way too many ways to lose what you worked hard to achieve and it's just not worth it.

The most fun you can have in this game is running along the shore talking to random people and killing bandits. The best part of DayZ is the first hours when you are completely new and out of gear, unafraid of losing stuff and you can actually go and interact with people.

Having things - cars even more - makes you cautious and retracted and thus more prone to KoS other players. You don't wanna lose your car, of course, that means you will take less risks.

I don't really know what could be done to solve this. These are just some thoughts I had from my play time so far.

Cars are not worth the trouble.

Who's attention at you attracting? I've been shot at once with a vehicle on a populated server. They do not get blown up easy, they're almost all pretty resilient save for the ATV, ours have been stolen ONCE and we recovered them 30 minutes later, the parts are easy to find, driving through towns is not difficult, and oh no, you have to stop to fill up for gas! Whatever will you do when you have to raid for ammo in the next update? Cry about guns being too high maintenance?

Fixed.

If they were less common, people would be more willing to use, lose and play around with their vehicles rather than just pack them full of AS50s and hide them in the wilderness like buried treasure.

I have tons of vehicles but I agree with you. Right now they're only used for the SAFEST of missions, like going to low traffic cities to refuel, or ferrying people through low traffic areas (always hiding them before going into any high traffic areas).

TENTS should be hidden, VEHICLES should be USED. Hide your fuel, hide your weapons, hide your tents, USE your vehicles -- the game would be a lot more exciting if player A was pinned down and his buddy just drove up, gave him cover with his vehicle while he hopped in, and then tried to haul ass out of town. Currently player A's life is worth less than the vehicle you'd risk to save him.

Jerry cans shouldn't be rare, they should just be found EMPTY!

i second this. empty jerry cans should be plentiful trash loot. unless you have a car and need fuel.. i mean, really, you could put fuel in a bucket, a few milk jugs, or even in ziplock bags if you needed.

you haven't been shot with machine gun or .50 cal weapon. we had our bus taken out by a guy with a .50.
