daedrick 90 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) What should be rare, instead, is fuel.Player should forage for fuel and defend fuel source more than anything if they want to use their vehicles. No, Im not trying to turn DAYZ into madmax, far from it, Im just trying to promote another kind of attitude toward vehicules.Instead of hoarding and hidding them in the most unreachable place, I want the players to make their camp somewhat close to gas source. Also, it would create conflict and player interactions.I just want to keep the experiment going, and be as close as reality as possible. As a bonus suggestion, there could even be some military vehicules laying around requiring diesel and helicopter should require jet fuel which would be even more rare. Now, not only do you need to repair the vehicules, but you need to hunt and fight for fuel.EDIT as of 5 august 2012.So far from the majority of people in thread we agree on;1: Fuel sources should be fewer.2: Jerry cans should be more rare.3: Jerry cans should be empty when first picked up.4: Vehicules need to be more comun.5: Vehicules need to be tougher.6: Vehicules shouldn't explode unless explosive are used on them.7: Vehicules should have less storing space.8: Parts should be more rare. harken (DayZ) 57 Posted August 3, 2012 I see where you are going with this, and there is some merit to it. However, there are so many fuel sources in this game for fuel to be rare, either those big tankers would need to have a daily limit on the number of Jerry can's they could fill, or Jerry cans themselves would be to become very rare so that refuelling would be a big problem. BlksnshN 127 Posted August 3, 2012 I really think something needs to change with the vehicles. Not only have I never driven one, I've only seen 3 on the move.

Of course, there should be more vehicules available all over the map following this change. Near roads, in parking lots,in cities, in traffic jam, in the wilderness and etc.Vehicles... not vehiculesFixed, my bad. (speaking french and all)
Buffjesus 357 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) once againif you want a vehicle go behind myshkino barn (at the end of the dirt road past the town) theres a white truck spawn.if it isnt there check the forests behind the barn (big open plains with like 8 trees in the middle). somewhere around there are going to be vehicles on atleast 50% of serversand if you know where vehicles spawn its almost impossible not to find oneif you realllllly want one just go to a spawn point and server hopedit: and safe fuel is extremely rare and yeah the tank should empty over time and reset on server restart Edited August 3, 2012 by Buffjesus
Powell (DayZ) 734 Posted August 3, 2012 Completely agree, and it makes sense. Jerry cans should be as rare as say, a ghillie suit.
Hoboleader 22 Posted August 3, 2012 vehicles arent rare at all lol.ive found 4 atv's, 1 motorcycles, 3 buses, 2 GAZ's in the past 3 days...you just have to spend some time exploring.
Lin (DayZ) 22 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) This idea..I feel is VERY good.fuel depots should be few and far between in heavily populated places. Jerry can spawn rate more rare, and hold less gas.People would have to fight to refuel their cars, and fuel stations would make for GREAT ambush spots. This is Alpha, the place were big changes like this happen.EDIT: Would also like to see a tanker truck to be added in this case. A truck that can be filled with a huge amount of gas. Then you can use the gas to refuel our heli/cars/trucks. One per server though. maxxenbraxxen 67 Posted August 3, 2012 I like itAlso, disable zombie spawns at gas points so that players can barricade them and build bases (trading posts ? Player made society ? camping/clan bases ? Hackers ?) with razor wire and tank traps. This will of course cause a shitload of problems but why not give it a try ? Herb (DayZ) 121 Posted August 3, 2012 Make it so you can't get gas from the fueltanks and need a portable generator to make the gas pumps work to fill up a car directly or jerrycans.
maxxenbraxxen 67 Posted August 3, 2012 Make it so you can't get gas from the fueltanks and need a portable generator to make the gas pumps work to fill up a car directly or jerrycans.Would be a bit overkill/unecessary/boring/remove speed (even if this game aims for the realistic thing)

Hoboleader 22 Posted August 3, 2012 Yeah vehicles should respawn once a dayi wouldnt mind seeing 2-3 more vehicles per server, but after awhile there would be like a 10:1 ratio of vehicles to players.

Alucardi 14 Posted August 3, 2012 Make it so you can't get gas from the fueltanks and need a portable generator to make the gas pumps work to fill up a car directly or jerrycans. Why? You have manual pumps on tanks like that today mostley. Its not hitec Russia. Sent from my Lumia 800 using Board Express

daze23 549 Posted August 3, 2012 if they put more cars in the game, it'll just be that many more to hide in the woods up northI'm not sure what the solution is, but I don't think adding a few more will change much

bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted August 3, 2012 Add a hose item that you need to siphon gas into the jerrycans. Not a tool belt item, make it take up inventory space.
contrasix 3 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) I'm fairly sure the OP has it right.. in any kind of infected apocalypse, there would be droves of people fleeing the cities, paying for gas if they could, stealing it if they couldn't. It'd likely be one of the first things to go. I can understand how Cherno and Elektro don't have any big ships in their harbors, as those would peace out asap as well, likely filling their hulls with precious go juice, and emptying the tanks at the docks.Unfortunately, this mod can't capture those first days of panic.. the looting, the rioting, the murdering for gasoline/food/shelter, as the virus spreads exponentially. Those who stayed, become them... the slavering, drooling horde. We don't see the immediate aftermath.. slaughtered and butchered remnants of women and children. Some people lying in bars with guns resting in line with the giant holes in their skulls, the floors slick with blood and tripe.. some chose not to go out that way.The freeways, side roads, railways.. all congested with yet more gruesome evidence of the spreading virus. Husks of burned cars, filled with husks of people, always painted red with dried blood... the occasional bloody handprint on a window or door. These were the ones that ran out of gas.Thusly, there would be a veritable plethora of vehicles sprawled along the roads, many of which would surely be in running order.. and yet, there would be an absolute dearth of fuels to drive them. Your dream car, that nice SLK550, Jaguar... not useable. From this we could extrapolate that there wouldn't be electricity either. Power stations would burn through their remaining coal within a week, if they were automated. The nuclear cities might have a month, but the lights would dwindle ever lower until they finally flickered out. That GPS, those NVGs..that flashlight..radios.. batteries would become the new gold, as any survivor would surely hope against hope to hear the governments broadcast a message telling of safety, and shelter. Then, the bandits come. They have the gas and the vehicles, the weapons...Needing what you have, or don't have... it doesn't matter. They take it, anything. If they leave you alive, you are lucky, or they didn't want to waste ammo. So the surviving survivors are then pushed out of the cities, naked, with maybe a flashlight, a scrap of cloth, a bag....Choose your Gender, and be ready to fight.
