Looking at building my computer for gaming on Day Z.

Recommended Posts

Ok, will this run Day Z?

CPU: http://pcpartpicker....u-hdz965fbgmbox

Motherboard: http://pcpartpicker....oard-m4n98tdevo

Hard Drive: http://pcpartpicker....ive-st1000vx000

Storage: http://pcpartpicker....ive-st1000vx000

Video Card: http://pcpartpicker....ard-gvn550oc1gi (Are the different priced versions of the 550 TI by different companies better? or are they the same?)

Power Supply: http://pcpartpicker....ly-cmpsu750txv2

Optical Drive: http://pcpartpicker....drive-ad7280s0b

Case: http://pcpartpicker....se-threehundred

Memory: http://pcpartpicker....z4gx3m1a1600c9b (X2)

Overall, with shipping it is $787.43

Also, do I need a CPU Cooler and a sound card?

That would add to the price. As well as buying a monitor. (I have a 70in. TV but I'd rather keep my computer in my room, so a 20 inch is fine for me.

Also, will all these things run together? and is it hard to install all the parts into the case? This would be my first computer, so I would like some help.

I was going to buy the parts from Newegg.com, as they have all of them

I want to be able to run ArmA 2 at Max settings, Day Z at Max settings (probably recording too)

Someone tell me what other games this can run? Like, if it can run BF3, then I'm good.

There are several parts that I would personally not buy, but I will leave those decisions up to you. The one thing I would definitely like to point out though, is that all PSU's that come in cases, suck. Do yourself a favor and buy a separate PSU....

450w psu is just fine. I'm running I-5 and crossfired ati 5770 with ease.

So you're running Day Z at max settings?

I didn't say it was underpowered. I said they suck, quality wise.

And I'm really new at this, but I know 3.0 Ghz is MUCH better than my laptops 1.40Ghz. I can still run Day Z at low settings though.

Would it be more expensive to buy the case and power supply separate?

Sometimes. It depends on if you want that specific case or if you really don't care and would take any case.

If it is more expensive, it's worth it though. I can't count how many customers I get that bring their "awesome custom computer" in to me to get fixed and it blew a motherboard because the crappy CPU sent a surge down the rail. It's just not worth the risk IMO.

Look here... same thing applies to computers as it does for guns. Buy once cry once, usually you get what you pay for and will last accordingly, and i will say right now... i doubt what you have willl run at max settings. get a 750 watt psu, this will last you a while into the future and allow you to upgrade the graphics card and everything else without the fear of being underpowered. Please for the love of god go with at least* a quad core, It will help out a lot more in a vast amount of games as i think they will soon make the quad the minimum instead of recommended. FORGET the solid state, you can almost get a good 1 TB 7200 rpm harddrive for that, granted its like 20 bucks more but it is sooo much more space, hell go with a 500GB 7200 rpm and you will do better and will cost about the same. Video card will be fine, but like i said you dont want to be underpower, that will kill all of your stuff faster then it would normally die. or if you are unlucky it could just fry instantly. Ram isnt too bad, i have my own personal preference on that but still you did good. and to top it off i suggest a better Motherboard.... seriously you get what you pay for and if you want something to last spend a bit more for quality

EDIT: your CPU and Motherboard are going to bottleneck your Graphics card

What about this CPU & motherboard combination? I had heard that the Intel CPU with the gigabyte motherboard would out-preform the 4 core AMD... but.. idk.

  • CPU: AMD A8-3870K 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor - $108.00
  • Motherboard: BIOSTAR TA75M FM1 AMD A75 FM1 Motherboard - $89.99

Personally Id go AMD for that price range. my experience is they have a lot more bang per buck unless your dumping lots more money into your system. I started my sytem with the FM1chipset, its a CPU with the GPU build in (called APU), you could get a matching video card and do Crossfire X, Would be a lot more powerful than the system you described at the same or less cost.

Don't listen to any of the previous posters. They are just saying things off the collar and have no idea what they're talking about.

Case and point:

You mention all these things you're buying for your system and fail to mention WHAT MONITOR YOU HAVE OR WHAT RESOLUTION YOU'LL BE RUNNING.

How is anyone suppose to know how a system will run the game with no resolution stated???

SURE! It will run DayZ maxed on UBER HIGHER EVERYTHING WHATEVER with a 550gtx @ 640x480.

gg, have fun taking advice from all these noobs. They may be vets in game but they have no idea what they're talking about with computer hardware. They're just buying stuff that is better than other stuff and putting it in a box and plugging it in.

I could give you helpful information however you seem quite content to follow all of these opinionated uneducated computer kids.

As I said, I don't have a monitor, and I have been playing on a Toshiba laptop. I am looking for a 20 inch monitor at the least

Size of the monitor doesn't matter. Only the resolution in which it will be running at. (1920x1080, ect....).

LOL @ Cinnabuns.....rage much?

Will this run it? only about $500 according to this website> http://teksyndicate....c-400-gaming-pc

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D3V Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard - $69.98

Hard Drive: OCZ Agility 4 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk - $63.75

Video Card: ASUS ENGTX550 TI DC TOP/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $139.99

Case: Rosewill R218-P-BK-450W ATX Mid Tower Case w/450W Power Supply - $42.50

Building a game to play arma 2 would be a silly idea. This game is a few years old and runs well on a pentium 2 duo extreme and an ATI hd2900. Just build a rig for arma 3 then most likely you can run DayZ when it becomes stand alone.

Aim higher if you can afford to. Don't build a Pc for DayZ. Build a Pc for the highest spec'd games that are currently out. If you do it right you won't spend a shit ton of money and you shouldn't have to upgrade to play anything for at least the next two years or so. Do NOT buy a packaged deal system from a company or you WILL get screwed. You can do it better and cheaper your-self.

Yes, I will never buy a PC from a company, as currently, Toshiba won't let me update my graphics drivers OR use AMD catylyst control center JUST so I have to buy a new laptop to update.. -,-. well I went on a PC builder website and I came up with

The mother boards used for older dual cores are going to be harder and harder to come by now too. I put my old mother board up on craigslist and got some pretty good cash from a guy who was trying to keep his dual core going.

I just put about $1000 into my rig around Christmas and got

X4 965 Black Edition CPU

AMD 6950 2g GPU

Motherboard and 8gigs of ram.

also other random accessories like a G9x mouse and fans and a heavy duty CPU air cooler to replace my liquid cooling. Also a copy of windows 7, cause XP just wasnt doing it anymore.

Managed to keep my 1kw power supply and all my drives and case, ditched the liquid cooling though now that I dont have to run a 6 year old dual core at 3.5ghz.

Stay away from AMD and BIOSTAR. ESPECIALLY BIOSTAR. Asus is the brand you want to look at for building your own rig.
