ShinFace 2 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) Hi there,I was quite surprised to see that there are no Day Z apps is only one low-quality Day Z app on the iOS app store, and have been thinking about a free "mobile survival kit" app I'd like to develop. I have a few ideas for this app already, such as (with permission) pulling down server stats and game stats, basic guides (bandages, sneaking, hunting etc), and a map. I've built the framework for it but I'd like to first make sure that I have permission from Rocket and whomever else before completing and releasing it and potentially stepping on peoples' toes. I realise that Day Z is great because of it's immersion and so would have to make sure the app isn't too helpful! If this app is given the go ahead, what would you like to see included? Any suggestions?PS - I tried to contact Rocket directly but he's very illusive (for good reason, I'm sure!) :P Edited August 2, 2012 by ShinFace
Lysander_of_Sparta 43 Posted August 2, 2012 A couple suggestions, if the app is given the go-ahead.Get all the dayz maps from southcoastbeanwars.com... they have some really helpful maps. Also, gun stats and loot stats would also be very helpful.Even if you don't include all this, i'd still download it, if it's free. Hell, i'd download it for up to $4.
Survivor Tyler 77 Posted August 2, 2012 Well this seems like a phenomenal idea. But you should make it ipad compatible ^.^
drseptapus 49 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) Port it to Android and I'll happily download it.aaaaaanyway.This thread might be of some service.http://dayzmod.com/f...ou-have-an-api/Edit: Important people gave their input starting at post #11. Dickhat 99 Posted August 2, 2012 My only suggestion is that you make it for Android instead.

ShinFace 2 Posted August 2, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't expect replies so quickly! Thanks for the suggestions Lysander; As for free Vs a charge, I think that should be up to Rocket!Jtyler1995 - It's easy enough to add iPad compatibility so I would definitely include that :)drseptapus + Dickhat - Thanks, that thread was helpful indeed. I was hoping there'd be a JSON page somewhere with game stats (total players, bandits, zombies killed etc). I've done some work on Android and have an Android device so should be able to do an Android version too.Harry0))) - Sweet, I'll contact you should I need graphics help, thanks! If the app gets the go-ahead I'll distribute beta versions here to those who've had good suggestions and are willing to test it further. ShinFace 2 Posted August 2, 2012 Update - Just found there is in fact a "gamer guide" for Day Z on the iOS store. It's not free and unaffiliated, so I believe we can do much better.
harryzhe 28 Posted August 2, 2012 (edited) yeah, do something polished and tight, not crap rearrangements of online info some scrub threw together to make a buckEDIT: when i had a think about this myself i thought itd be a good thing to have the app have seamless updates to maps and things from some online source you and a handful of "editors" can update as needed. Like, new map info could be grabbed from an external source without necessarilly having to deploy a new update to the app itself. It would save you having to get the thing sent through the whole app store process each time map info needs to be updated. App updates usually take around 2 weeks to be accepted and pushed out and this could be too long for major changes.
Tacfitty 0 Posted August 3, 2012 Not sure how hard this would be. At least with the iphone, add the ability to "drop a pin" on the map. Once you do that, the app will tell you the nearest spawns, sorted by distance from the pin.
harryzhe 28 Posted August 3, 2012 Hm, i can imagine people will ask for a feature for the phone to work like a real-time GPS by grabbing your character's position. This would sort of constitute a "cheat" in some ways. But then again one could argue that any kind of out-of-game map could be called a cheat.
ShinFace 2 Posted August 3, 2012 Sweet, lots of great ideas! Now I just need to find a way to contact Rocket for his approval :)
ShinFace 2 Posted August 5, 2012 Firstly, sorry for the double post.I've decided to begin collecting resources for the app whilst waiting for Rocket's permission. I figure it's now or never and this particular task will take a long time so starting now is for the best. I know I could be potentially wasting a lot of time and that's why I was hoping I could get a little help from those with the weapons already. At the moment I'm collecting in game images of weapons whilst I build the weapon section; I'll collect general loot after this is compiled. I've grabbed a list courtesy of DayZWiki.com of all the weapon images we need:CrowbarHatchetCompound CrossbowG17Glock 17M9M9 SDM9 SilencedM1911Makarov PMPDWRevolverM240M249M249 SAWMk 48Mk 48 Mod 0Double-barreled ShotgunM1014MR43Remington 870Remington 870 (Flashlight)Winchester 1866Bizon PP-19 SDMP5A5MP5SD6AK-74AKMAKS-74UAKS-74 KobraFN FALFN FAL AN/PVS-4L85A2 AWSLee EnfieldM4A1M4A1 CCOM4A1 CCO SDM4A1 HoloM4A3 CCOM16A2M16A2 M203M16A4 ACOGAS50CZ 550DMRM14 AIMM14 EP1M24M107SVD CAMOM136If anyone has any of these weapons and wouldn't mind taking the time to screen shot them and posting here (or maybe PM would be kinder for the mods?) for use in this app, I would be eternally grateful. I'll also be able to give out beta versions to around 50 people, and free versions (if it's a pay for app - If I need a server I'll have to cover some of my costs some how :S) to around 100 people. I'll keep this list updated should I receive an image of the weapon. Unfortunately the screens I took last night of the Makarov, Lee Enfield and hatchet only showed my desktop, shortly before bleeding out :(Also I'm in two minds as to whether it's worth having another info page for variants like the M4A1, M4A1 CCO and M4A1 CCO SD. I might just have a "Variants" field under the stock M4A1 and just list these there instead. Thoughts?Mods: I hope it's Ok to reuse my thread like this, if not please let me know and I'll create a separate thread.
