Are there vehicle location hacks? or admin abuse here?

Recommended Posts

For this reason i've stopped to hide the vehicles i occasionally find (it's better to destroy em after the usage..). It's the benefit of having/admin a server.. why do you think that 90% of choppers in game belongs to the server owner(s)? Skill? Luck? Cheaters? :)

Well they wouldn't be removing certain info from the logs if this kind of abuse wasn't going on. Do a google search and you'll see that if they wanted to, admins could indeed do those things.

Id say that admins probably can see what happens to vehicles. The other night I logged into a server with about 3 players on. Was running through the forest at night and saw a load of chemlights on the floor around a few vehicles. There was a player doing something around them so I shot him...about 20 seconds later I was kicked and couldn't get back in without getting kicked again.

I logged back in to the server the next morning and one of the admins was online (said admin in the brackets next to his name on the setup screen). No1 was at the camp so I stole a few items from the vehicles and then started shooting one (for kicking me the night before) of the urals. After about 5 shots it disappeared and I could hear it driving off in in the distance!! Gutted I didn't have a grenade to blow them up in 1 shot!!!

I'm wondering if there's a hack that shows current locations of vehicles

Yes. Hackers can also teleport vehicles. Further, since vehicles spawned via script will disappear after server restart, hackers actually have to find and steal legit vehicles. Not sure why people are pointing fingers at admins. These things are commonly done by hackers on a daily basis.

Circular argument. I don't doubt it is abused, not at all. But "it's abused" is not a coherent argument for removing it either. The question that ought to be answered is whether the abuse of the RPT file is greater or worse than the abuse from cheaters that can be negated by using the RPT file and a simple policy change to allow administrators to ban cheaters.

My position is pretty clear based on my posting history. I can use the RPT file to ban cheaters left and right. Anyone who dislikes my policies or is abused by me or another administrator have thousands of other servers to choose from. Meanwhile none of us can escape cheaters, anywhere, without the RPT file and without a policy of allowing administrators to ban cheaters.

The choice is clear to me.

You can be as good as you want hiding your vehicles and tents.

Doesn't change the fact that there are still people that spend their time hunting for them.

But it does suck to loose all that. Recently lost an entire camp/ural/motorbike/ute/bicyclesx2 after having them for about 10 days also.

What he said.

Hide all you want, I will find it sooner or later. Most players walk across hidden stuff, even when they hide them near the rim of the map!

I play so I find camps and I also come across vehicle's which I use to speed up my searching patterns. I have found 6 vehicles in 2 days on 2 different servers (Boom)

Admin abuse is becoming more common also (Look at the forums), though I doubt they have a "Marauders" map.

Tell me, how long did it take to fix 3 vehicles up and hide them? You knew the spawn points, did you save them? Did the server restart?

These kinds of posts are far more concerning than Strife's posts on perfectly valid issues. If you really are an admin, a quick look through your server logs should verify that yes, the kind of abuse Strife is talking about is absolutely possible. Admins have full access to the DayZ server log, which contains every single database transaction between your server and the hive. This includes player co-ordinates and names, all the items in every players inventory, save locations of tents, locations of vehicles whenever anyone enters/exits them, etc. If you're a server admin and feel unfairly threatened by these kinds of accusations, it means one of two things:

a ) You're ignorant of the true extent of your abilities as an admin (which is probably for the best really, considering the amount of abuse that already occurs).

or

b ) You're already using these techniques, and want to shout down the messenger to keep it quiet as long as you can.

Here's an example of a map made using the admin server logs to track player positions:

A lot of those areas have Camp sites, cheers, always good to find new places to Destroy! (Irregardless of servers)
