The Regulators are looking for good people

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

I'm reviving a thread from the General Discussion (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/42919-law-to-lawless-lands/) since that's not for recruitment in hopes to find more people to join the Regulators, a movement dedicated to protective-style gaming. Please take a moment to read this (it's a bit long, sorry) and see what you think:

Who Are The Regulators?

The Regulators are not a clan in the actual sense of the word as much as a network of players who are fed up with random player killing and are working to bring law to these lawless lands. Our movement is just little over a week old and our numbers are growing, not because we have loot and servers, but because our message seems to resonate in the community.

We have no command hierarchies or military ranks: all Regulators are equal. Our group is made of lone wolves and small bands whose duty is to patrol servers in their region, helping out people to the best of our abilities and fighting player killers and bandits whenever possible. We believe in the ideal of passing good deed along: I personally believe that when you've been killed senselessly 20 times, even one no-strings-attached act of good from a player is enough to make you restore your faith in the better aspects of this game. We know that once looting gets boring, PvP becomes the only fun passtime. But what happens when that gets boring? Some people leave and some, like us, turn to figuring out new objectives for our game by setting boundaries and principles that we abide to. We don't have many rules, the only requirement for new Regulators is to follow our Code:

1) Do not kill for loot or for pleasure

2) Help out people who are willing to accept it and protect anybody you see.

3) Be ready to die for others and to forgive your killers. People are scared and the journey to building up trust is hard and long.

Who Are We Looking For?

The ideal Regulator is a player who knows how to survive in the game and is honestly looking to challenge him- or herself by fully exploring the possibilities of the emergent gameplay of DayZ. We don't ask much from you, only that you follow the Code and do your part in making this game a little bit safer for everybody. We have all kinds of members: scouts, snipers, medics, teams and loners. Although our numbers are still small, we already operate in the US, EU and Asia. We won't force you to play on set servers or at set times, in fact we encourage to do completely the opposite: play like you want to play, only follow the Code.

I've seen lots of people on this forum looking for groups and complaining about the rampant PvP nature of the game - your interest and passion for this game is exactly what will make you and excellent Regulator, so please contact me or visit our forum (link below)

How Do We Operate?

We're building our organization still, but this much is already done: Regulators are loosely organized into Cells of 1-5 people who operate regionally (so there are US, EU etc cells). The cells are encouraged to play together and share information, but there are also plenty of lone wolf Regulators running in the night, watching the bandits and helping from afar. The cells have leaders, but the leader is chosen from within the cell and each member should have a chance of taking the team to the field. We believe that an organic and fluid system is the best way for us to cover the most ground and to minimize the amount of bureaucracy that it takes to run a normal clan. The cells stay as independent as they want and are free to pick their own way of Regulating their patrol zones.

Our operations are coordinated by Regional Admins, who make sure that when more manpower is needed, more cells can be dispatched to a hot zone as backup. Bandit clans are well-armed and ridiculously well-trained, so when in doubt, we call for backup. Being a Regional Admin is not so much a promotion as it is an indication that your fellow Regulators respect you and know you will get shit done. Even as Admins, these people are still Regulators and should take it to the field as often as they can.

Our missions are not limited to one type: some of us gather intel on the enemy and patrol to locate their camps while others run supplies to cells/survivors, counter-snipe griefers, set up medical tents, protect survivors from the Infected and so on - It's pretty much whatever you feel you are the best in.

Interested?

We are not set out to say that one style of gaming is "better" than the other: This game needs bandits and murderers as much as it needs traders and Regulators. We are the community and it's within our power to shape it into anything we want to if our minds are set to it. This is one way, so if any of this seems like something you'd like to be a part of, PM me for more details or come visit our forums at:

Thanks for reading and welcome to the Movement!

And take my advice from personal experience. People NEED a leader for this stuff. Without a guide your group may become stale. I've seen 3 too many Good groups go down the drain because their leader has not taken any initiative. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Oh for sure - we're not just throwing this out here and walking away. With less hierarchy I just mean that our "leaders" will not be telling you what to do and when to do it. We'll share information and experiences and the Regional-level guys will use that information to develop the organization further (if that's what you mean by 'leadership'). We might sound like a bunch of hippies here, but we believe that the supreme authority in the Regulators is the fact that you, and you alone, decide if you want to help or hurt other people. Being a Regulator is just a way of expressing your choice to protect to the rest of the community.

Hey man, one of your clan members murdered one of my friends in Cherno, and my friend wasn't even a threat.

So I had to kill him :(

Just a question, how do you tell who is who in game ? - when your wandering the wilderness and come across someone there isn't really any way to know they are "good" or "bad" until you are too close.

I know the voice chat works, but again, you need to be fairly close for that.

LunchBox: What was the Regulator's name?

Psyl3nt: That's one of the tricky parts: you really can't. Our members have different ways of going about this: some stay hidden and use the voice chat to try and establish a connection or give them a location to go and pick up some food/medicine, some (like me) observe a guy on the rooftop and take him out if he is witnessed killing somebody else. Some avoid contact and just pop zombies that are chasing the guy. As a rule of thumb, everybody is by default considered friendly (instead of the more standard way of considering them hostile from the get-go) so the situation is at least developing towards being defused instead of escalation.

Tbh, I have no Idea, only reason I even would say it is because when my friend was killed and told me the name, my other friend was like: "I though those guys were against player killing"

Idk no big deal, I got pay back.

We will look into this and act accordingly. Wow, this thread got off to a very weird start. :)

That is really wierd. Everyone that I've talked to seems really committed to the code. Hopefully we can find out who this guy was and deal with the situation. Please, don't let this one event blacken your opinion of us. Our other members have already done great things to help out other players.

Yes, that is really odd. If anything, I've noticed that most Regulators are overly careful about not killing an innocent. Did your friend do something that made himself look hostile? Regulators will give you multiple voice chat and typed warnings before opening fire on you.

Anyways, don't let this one incident spoil your view of us please, we're on the whole as helpful as we can possibly be. We provide protection, medical assistance, food/water, we help in any way we can.

I can't believe any one of our guys would kill one of your friends without good reason, Lunchbox. What were you doing right before you got shot?

I'm very interested in joining. I play with another IRL friend and we are tired of the random PVP on innocents, we would go out of our way to help others, but its basically become a shoot on site, and thats unfortunate. We love surviving and challenging ourselves without the Hunt and Stalk noobs, which everyone has become so accustomed to.

Thanks for being interested! You can start just by putting [Regulator] in front of your name and start helping people, and I also recommend registering on our forums. Thanks again!

Hey man, it's great to know you're interested in joining! It's always good to have more like-minded people join the cause. All you have to do is simply put the [Regulator] tag before your name, and if you want, you can visit our forums to meet up and chat with other Regulators.

Edit: Jim, you made every point I made and you beat me to it XD.

This is pretty much something I expected to happen sooner or later - like in any lawless lands. I'm very much interested in this experiment and already registered on Reg forums ;]

"Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers"

We certainly have manslayers in abundance XD. It's great to have you on board man, always looking for as many people as we can get.

Wow I'm pretty sure I saw you guys all join a server at once. I was in the player selection lobby and saw 4 people with [Regulator] in front of their name. Later that night my camp got raided and I lost some decent gear though :/

Yeah, that was probably one of our group trips up to NW airfield. Regulators have been getting together and doing that sort of stuff as of late.
