:o I didn't know this! Was it always like this? Started playing a few weeks ago.

And how do you respawn? I got a crappy spawn and don't feel like running over the hills for 30 minutes.

wow, a few weeks really? Yea the servers are persistent, and respawning to get a better starting location is definitely considered spamming the sever, though if you still want to do it despite the option being removed, then just get yourself killed
