zorphon 0 Posted August 1, 2012 Hey all, I'm a new player to Day-Z.I have no clue what I'm doing, honestly. I read up on the wiki and everything, but once I get in-game I just go prone and crawl around looking like an idiot. I only found one gun and it was after like 45 minutes of playing, but I didn't have the ammo for it.I don't really have any buds to play with, so do you guys have any tips? Or are there some people I can start playing with or something? It takes so long to run from place to place and as soon as I get somewhere I get shot. dallas 5195 Posted August 1, 2012 Look to the right of your screen: See the ear and eye icon. The faster you run, the taller you walk, the easier zombies detect you. Walking on roads/asphalt also makes you easier to detect.Toggle crouch and run crouched. When you see/hear zombie switch to walking. If they face you or get too close hit the dirt.Get used to zombies and learn how close you can get without getting your face eaten.Get used to which buildings are open and have loot.Stay alive, learn from your deaths, search, search and search for loot.Good luck. the.death.toll@gmail.com 22 Posted August 1, 2012 I agree with the daydb map. Also loading your game via DayZ Commander vs 6 launcher. that way you can be a little mor specific on where you go. Stick to lower pop servers, try to get yourself a compass/map/watch asap. Waypoints on servers can be REALLY helpful when first learning your way around the map (especially when scouting for deer blinds, avoiding certain hot spots.AKM is an amazing starter rifle, makes very little noise and you can just pray and spray, it does have iron sights though.Hold down alt to look left and right while still moving forward. I just don't know where I am. I logged out in like a little place on the coast with railroad tracks inside of what appeared to be a factory of some kind, but it's a really small 'Town', if I'd even call it that. SystemiK 366 Posted August 1, 2012 Youtube is full of introductory video clips on DayZ. Make sure you find one that shows the basics (many are just a video capture of people playing the game instead of being a tutorial). I tried to find the one I had my buddies watch but cant find it again. There are many tutorials out there. An hour watching tutorials will save you a lot of frustration in the long run... It only splashes the screen for a few seconds. Edited August 1, 2012 by Ghoulina
daniel.owens@iqu.com 43 Posted August 1, 2012 Have a look in the bandit or survivor forums for clans that are recruiting in your timezone, otherwise just have patience. It can take a long time to do even the smallest tasks, that's just part of the game, but you are generally rewarded for your paitence so stick in there. As for tips, give this a read: http://www.mmogames.com/gamenews/5442/the-ultimate-dayz-beginners-guide
cragzeek 29 Posted August 1, 2012 This is going to break immersion for you, but it usually gets me gear in about an hour to two hours.Hit respawn till you get churno or elektro. Run through the town and hit all the high target locations. Do not pay any attention to zeds. Only enter buildings with two exits, this will be a problem at the firestation so that will either require stealthiness, kiting, or you to be an exploiter (which I won't support here). The zombies can't hit you while you are sprinting so just keep sprinting around through buildings. Also you can LoS em pretty good around buildings and through arch-ways.Use this map: http://dayzdb.com/map. Voila.
