Harette 5 Posted August 1, 2012 I'm starting to get interested in hosting a server for Day ZEven before I realized it was outlawed to host your own , i decided I wasn't going that route. So I'm interested to hear from people who currently pay for outside/ 3rd party hosting. Their opinions on their current or previous server hosts.I mean from my experience its generally the same. But everything else I farmed out were for IIS hosts and virtualized 2008 servers for business use.Never before have I done this for private/video games use.So basically, recommendations?I'd rather hear from the community first about reliable uptime/downtime/GUIs/performance/hidden fees, etc.
masterbrain 20 Posted August 1, 2012 Just keep in mind that most providers are managed server offerers and you have 0 control of anything server related. The only options you get to change and pay for are the slots (more slots = higher cost), Difficulty, Recruit, Regular, Veteran. (Not really important in the fact that you either way X amount of options or X amount of options.) ie. Crosshairs, Nametags, Map etc. All useless choices. You also have no control over your updates. You can not update your server yourself as most providers have made agreements with managed server hosts to take all server config privledges away from server owners. So you honestly gain VERY little by owning a server. If you want any flexability while still adhereing to DayZmod rules go for an unmanaged dedicated server.Thats just me, I used HFB for my first server hosted by them and it was a terrible nightmarish garbage can for the month of July. Harette 5 Posted August 1, 2012 Awesome, thanks for letting me know HFB is actually in the running. Was HFB so bad that you stopped using them? But again, this is so out of the norm for what I used to when purchasing hosting I really have no idea. Also, what is the verdict on having a Public, Non-Hive server good/bad/waste of time/bannable offense? pepperkorn@gmail.com 94 Posted August 1, 2012 DO NOT get a slotted hosted server if at all possible. try and grab a virtual dedicated server or physical dedicated server, you'll have WAY more control over your server.. But if you do go with a hosted option, check through the threads in the server section, a lot of hosts have been having issues the with the game control panel and people haven't gotten their servers set up until 3-5 days later. From personal experience.. I had ordered a 40slot server from HFB about 2 months ago. My server was set up and running with hours, updates and beta patches were released within a day to the control panel, and I never had any down time. I now have a Virtual Dedicated Server via Host Altitude and couldn't be happier.

You'd have to google on it as it's not supported here though.

The idea sounded interesting to me, to mitigate server hopping, and to create a tighter nit community, plus run thrid party anti-cheat software, but I'd rather not "step" on the development crew and do something against them, as they are the people that have brought us this product free of charge.DO NOT get a slotted hosted server if at all possible. try and grab a virtual dedicated server or physical dedicated server, you'll have WAY more control over your server..But if you do go with a hosted option, check through the threads in the server section, a lot of hosts have been having issues the with the game control panel and people haven't gotten their servers set up until 3-5 days later. From personal experience.. F4ll3N 28 Posted August 1, 2012 for vanilla game hosting I use vilayer, it is $50 CDN for a 40 clot server and i get a 9-13ms ping in it. They have a TS that usually has one of the team in it for Q/A and of course they follow rockets server rules so access to mission files is restricted. Many config options though including a timezone changer.Been using vilayer for over a month and they are a good host imo, though due to high volume of ordered servers it can take upto 24h to get servers up... though mine only took 90min. CamP 81 Posted August 1, 2012 I've been using HostAltitude's slot hosting service. I've had absolutely zero issues with their service.
