The_Man 393 Posted August 1, 2012 http://www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-assault/148235-performance-ssd-arma-2-a.htmlA lot of you always ask "What video card should I upgrade to" which is fine. However, you should know that performance in this game (Not FPS) can be very limited by what kind of hard-drive you have. Here is a video showing the difference in stuttering between a 7200RPM and 10k RPM hard-drive. There is probably more to it than just read speed though. I'm still researching it. Point is...don't splurge and put 2/3rds of your cash into the video card. Go for balance with your budget because in this game...your video card can be very much bottlenecked by your hard-drive! The textures are huge in this game!

The_Man 393 Posted August 1, 2012 Here is a tutorial for Dayz and RAMDISK. I wish I could afford an SSD right now but I guess I'll give this a shot today!
scofieldr 4 Posted August 1, 2012 well textures still should load in VRAM and RAM, this game engine is just broken ;)
twotoes 11 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) well textures still should load in VRAM and RAM, this game engine is just broken ;)what he said. i wouldn't use arma 2 as any kind of benchmark - the engine really is a bit farked.also, i run two 7200rpm (i think) HDD in raid 0 and never get any jutters, so i'm thinking past a certain point SSD and Ramdisks aren't gonna make a difference, but then i am using a raid array...something else, make sure you've installed native controller drivers.my mobo uses an intel controller and installing the RTS drivers and software makes a huge difference - for example: write back cache is disabled by default in MS's built-in generic drivers. velyse (DayZ) 22 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) I run the game off of my wd caviar black raid-0 array, I get no stuttering. Main performance issues are due to zombie and loot generation in large cities. Edited August 1, 2012 by velyse
