porkyham 4 Posted August 1, 2012 It really is a bitter-sweet feeling, one part of me says, 'screw this game!' and vow to never return, yet another side of me reacts like a junkie craving the next fix. Have just been shot after days of surviving, had decent gear and was probably making too much noise, thus i got shot lol. The feeling though is unlike anything else, because of perma death it heightens the feeling of 'game over' that other games just cant come close to. Anyone else feel like this? lol

Zymi 64 Posted August 1, 2012 Dying is the best bit. I've had the best gear and welcomed death. Being geared up is boring.
Waggy44 0 Posted August 1, 2012 Ye, I totally agree. Went through the same thing the other day, spent numerous nights playing with friends and we got so much good loot (guillie suits, camo, weapons, resources). We felt like it would completely suck to die now and lose all this stuff but the eventual happened and we tried to out smart a couple of bandits and with a complete lack of confrontational skills, we were shot dead. Ye we were all bummed out but I feel starting again is exciting. there's the urgency to find a weapon to defend yourself and getting a good amount of supplies, enough to go exploring cities and towns to find an awesome gun to replace your axe or Makarov with. I've learnt that although dying sucks, it doesn't bother me as much.
porkyham 4 Posted August 1, 2012 Dying is the best bit. I've had the best gear and welcomed death.Being geared up is boring.Indeed, i would welcome a nerf of much of the gear, get rid of advanced optics, thermals etc. Having a military grade rifle+equipment would most likely never fall into the hands of general civilians, give the ability to put basic scopes onto hunting rifles etc and i belive it would make combat and interaction in the game much more personal and up close, having to get closer before you take the shot will increase your chance of being spotted too so its a win win, rather than having people in guilles running around with fals and nightvision/thermal optics camping everything. porkyham 4 Posted August 1, 2012 "Fuck, now I have to play this game I payed for becuase I enjoy it. . . again. Damn."lol, i guarantee at least 50% of people have rage-uninstalled this game then reinstalled it a day later... its like crack!
VaultDweller (DayZ) 58 Posted August 1, 2012 Dying is the best bit. I've had the best gear and welcomed death.Being geared up is boring. It is boring when you dont know what to do with all that gear. However in my case i just go on survival marathon and a bandit hunter.Sharing my gear in return for eternal frienship. (rare one)Bored? When i just dont feel ,,splinter cell,, type of playing it and im armed to the teeth i just go on a zombie rampage!!!Cleaning the town from the infection...
Cooperal 16 Posted August 1, 2012 That new beginning where even a makarov looks appetising. Easily the best part of the game. High-end bean hunts are just.... shit. Hunger should certainly be in, I fully support that.Only one irk. While "realistic" roughly translates to "no fun" in the virtual realm, relieving hunger is one of the few things which feel completely swapped around. roaraam@gmail.com 3 Posted August 1, 2012 You need to just stay on your toe with better gear do also mean you got a greater advantageand now the addiction part.....this apply to the one you just killed and you got all their progresion in your pocketbest part with dying in a "hardcore style" like this, is that you much more likley to learn from your mistake compare to simple mmo death

You have my beans good sir!Which is just how rocket intended it to be :) player created and player orientated gameplay, which is awesome as it means everyone does something different, and reacts differently rather than having to follow a set style of gameplay/style. Hinaru 96 Posted August 1, 2012 Dying is the best bit. I've had the best gear and welcomed death.Being geared up is boring. Not if you set yourself some targets and missions like visit every town one time or someting. And that in a clan is just awesome, and not boring.
Greasymullet 7 Posted August 1, 2012 Getting killed after days is upsetting, but is to be expected and i'll usually get over it soon. Getting killed by a hacker just nuking a server because he's bored after surviving for days is brutal.

As soon as I find one the mod ceases to be immersive.
lugaru 103 Posted August 1, 2012 When I started playing you spawned with a Makarov and a ton of ammo... so death meant "woo, Ammo refill!"Then they took away everything except for a flashlight, painkillers and a bandage. Then dying was MISERABLE.Now I'm good enough that I mostly find interesting loot when I respawn, and I think loot is less buggy than before... so sometimes I go looking for trouble, craving a chance to start again and have another set of adventures. I'm not a "10 days alive, 1000 zombies killed!" guy.

As soon as I find one the mod ceases to be immersive.so true, i have had much more fun with an enfield and a few cans of beans than a nvfal and enough steak and water to last a life time lol. I mean im sure many people enjoy getting this high end equipment, but for me it seems out of place in a zombie survival game, would be much more realistic if weapons reflected what would generally be around, rifles and shotguns in farms etc, maybe some pistols in town. It would also create a much 'closer' game whilst also maintaining a large maps size.

I'm not a "10 days alive, 1000 zombies killed!" guy.I started just after they removed the makarov on spawn lol, although i think the newer system is great as it is, its also not too hard to find a shotty or enfield within the first 10-15 minutes. Thats what i did before, i logged into a populated server and just ran around devils castle for a while, didnt get into a firefight :( so then just ran off into a random forest n got sniped lol. Skithe 13 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) There has only been this and one other game (EVE) that I have ever got a rush from a fire fight and trying not to die. Bottlerocket 205 Posted August 1, 2012 It's funny.I don't mind dying when I set out. I don't mind dying when I'm geared. But dying when you've just found that last bit of survival gear/1st machine gun/Alice Pack/vehicle really, really, really sucks. I go for a walk when that happens. Cry a bit, too.
Bludy 324 Posted August 1, 2012 ... having people in guilles running around with fals and nightvision/thermal optics camping everything.ahahahah fantastic, it's true! you have just to hope that when you place your enfield in their ass, they die like men and don't disconnect
