Backpack Space [Change & Suggestion]

Recommended Posts

So first i'll go with the change i feel this game needs:

I just think it's really wierd that a pistol takes up, what is it? Five slots or so in a back pack while a wooden log takes up 2...

Realistically the pistol should only take up 2-3 slots while the wooden log should take up about 2-3 slots to, ofc, depending on size that is.

So i just want to the pistol to take up 2-3 less slots in the backpack.

So now for my suggestion:

I think that it would be cool that, if say, you have an alice pack and you find a winchester or whatever primary weapon, and you put the weapon in your alice pack, the weapon would kind of hang from the alice pack on the character instead of actually being in the bag because once again, realistically i don't think a full size winchester(or whatever) would fit inside even an alice pack. They're just not that big.

The main reason that you see some things taking up much more space than seems practical is to do with balancing the item itself.

Something as useful as another gun needs to take up many spaces in order to stop players carrying 4 guns and collecting all the ammo in the game and still have room for food/medicine.

As for your suggestion, I disagree with it. There needs to be balance to carrying more than one primary weapon, otherwise people would just hang every weapon off their pack and never be short of ammo for something.

Yeah the amount of space some items take is inconsistent. A bundle of road flares is roughly the size of a makarov, but the flares take up 1/4 the space. I'd like to see them use a more limited version of the stalker inventory system where weapons have a realistic "volume" and also have weight. You can't have too much of either.

weight and stamina is the answer... if you wanna walk everywhere and take breaks every 10 minutes... Ill let you carry anything you want :) hell put a damn car in your backpack and good luck :)

A US soldier carries about 90 lbs (45 kilo) of fun, plus a 40lb (20kilo) vest.

An assaultpack weights in on about 50lbs (25 kilo).

"first aid bandages, ammo, food, hand grenades, MREs (broken down of course), notebook, pens, maps, radio batteries, a mortar round (for the company 60mm guns), a belt of 100rds of 7.62mm for the M240B machine guns, more ammo, 2 x 1qt canteens (can't always trust a Camelback), VS-17 marking panel, small squad handheld radio, flex cuffs, candy, a book to read, more ammo in mags, weapons cleaning kit, phase book of the local language, compass, GPS, and a dozen more things but you get the picture...."

What I miss the most is extra amunition bags. you can easliy fit 8-10 mags for an AK by just haning them in bags from your belt plus an additional 8-10 mags in the backpack.

1st. Isn't there room already for a second primary?(If you have an alice pack that is)

2nd. The weapon hanging from the alice pack wouldn't act as another space for weapons, just a cool animation instead of carrying a 2-4 foot long weapon in your backpack. It would be more realistic so to say.

i not even played this yet but from my experience of arma 2 etc i think that a gun should take up more slots i hated playing missions in the past and people would pull out an m4 from there pack shoot it then drop that and pull out an ak etc and keep doing it, this encourages you to think well ive got this gun with 4 mags but then theres this better one with 2 mags it makes choose your kit wisley, ur a survivor not this guy below

Yeah I agree with this. I should be able to carry a shotgun, assault rifle and sniper rifle if they would realistically fit on my body, but I should suffer heavy movement and stamina penalties for it.
