Hackers - What you need to know.

Recommended Posts

good post. I was irked by hacking when i first started, but i started reading more about how it works and whats being done and im more confident that it's just a temporary hassle.

One solution would be to charge money for the game/to participate in the beta/alpha testing.

If you aren't even going to read the thread, then don't make a comment. It's very clear you don't know how this engine works. Yes, poor Scripting is easily the excuse. I actually wouldn't call it poor scripting. ArmAII and Battleye were simply not meant to have DayZ on it.

Wasn't it meant to be easily moddable ?

Yeah it was a nice post until I read up to this point and then stopped reading. I'm sorry but you can't just say that. People have these conditions and you want to use that as a scenario as to why people hack? That's just really disrespectful... I'm shocked.

I have ADD and I seriously don't give a fuck.

If someone feels insulted it's their problem when they feel the urge to take it personally.

I dont care its alpha, " its Alpha " is a punk excuse when you cant think of anything else

I dont care that its free, mainly because i shure as hell wouldnt pay to be hacked on a daily basis, and i know i wouldnt trust any kind of payment info anywhere tied to it

If we are suposed to test this game, then fine lets test security features. Suposedly acording to the thread the scripting has a white list or black list or whatever. Did anybody think to only add the scripts nessisary for dayz to run to that list ? Or remove teleporting all together ? For a script to run it has to authenticate commands if im understanding correctly, so then hard code those commands out, is Rocket still with BI he has access to the code itself. bI shurely isnt making anymore money off Arma2 other then through DayZ. I read yesterday that the military is going with their own engine now.

Literally there is no reason to continue to play with the amount of hacks goong around, and the " we cant do anything about it " is BS.

I literally just learned of TheWarZ a couple hours ago, if the hacking continues in DayZ its gatenteed ill be throwing my money at WarZ and not DayZ. I adjusted to unrealistic night, i adjusted to no weps, i adjust to every other change. I will not adjust to being teleported into a Thunderdome, or teleported 100m in the air, or any of the other exploits.

I think there has been enough testing of the Respawn,Death from teleport " bug "

Now i understand this is rockets game and he can do whatever and ban whoever for whatever reason, its his game, i hold the same opinion of Bioware, Blizzard, and every other developer.

But the longer this goes on, the lower chance Rocket will make any money off it. Unless he wants to do the game for charity

Rocket hasn't made any money from the mod.

So he can't lose anything.

As I've said, it will be interesting to see how he decides to tweak the games security for the stand alone.

I meant more in terms of "imaginary" money, of the money he will be making in the future. If these close-minded people are left with a bad impression now, they probably won't buy the game when it becomes a stand alone, thus losing him money in the future.

Something to note for adding, because it shows the dedication the hackers will have toward this game. The following is a developer blog for the MMOFPS APB:Reloaded. Keep in mind APB is not a high population game as well as a bit more complex when it comes to developing cheats:

http://apbreloaded.g...amnesty_30.html

Here is the very interesting bit:

"Based on the bans we can now even compute the revenues of the major cheat makers. We estimate that the three cheat makers make from $15,000 to $50,000 in revenue per month (depending on the cheat maker) from their cheats from the APB portion of cheats."

That's 600,000 for the top hacking site going to them per year for a small mmofps.

One of the three major hacking sites gets 50k a month on that game. I guarantee they are making more on this game as they roll out their hacks, and I guarantee its the same websites as the blog is talking about(i've confirmed one of them already). It makes me feel that private community servers may be the best place for long term players down the road, because these hackers will never stop updating these hacks until it is financially worthless, at which point less than a thousand hackers would have to be interested. That will be a very, very long time. Great post OP, I didn't learn a lot but I know many people here have little to no knowledge of how hacking works and possibly as important how Battleeye and its sisters work.

The biggest problem and the thing that is going to kill the community is that, even though every other post on the forums is about hacking, no one from the Development team is responding to the problem.

Sure they may be working on it in the back ground and will release the solution when they are ready; however they may not be working on it at all.

We don't know.

Because there is no response from the DayZ team people will automatically think that no one is working on a solution and that they team don't think that hacking is an issue, even though there are 1,000,000 posts complaining about hacking.

Or even worse they are ignoring the problem in hopes that it will go away.

Their lack of acknowledgement to this issue will stop people from playing.

I already know more than 10 players who refuse to get on a server until this is resolved.

Just one post from Rocket or another dev team member about the situation and their concern of the issue may help to calm the waters.

Until then you will just see more and more posts as the incidents happen and people get fed up.

Did u even read the thread before posting? lol.. wtf is going here.. please read the thread before posting ty

SCRIPT KIDDIES.

These are the people you see running rampant. I can 99.99% guarantee these people either downloaded a leaked private hack or bought one from one of the hacking sites that make money from spastics who want an easier game.

These people go mad with power. That's why you see so many people nuking, mass teleporting and so on.

Because they are 12 year olds who have access to their parents credit card.

You'd generally find these people who got killed by a legit sniper and say to themselves "I want that gun, oh, better look for an easy way to get it because i'm aman with ADD and a short attention span."

Basically, they are the spoilt brats of our generation who want instant gratitude.

Unfortunately, the hackers who made these hacks decided to put in instant-kill and teleportation and all these other exploits that ruin everyone's day.

Yes. I hate seeing people refer to them as 'hackers'. Hacking takes talent, using a pre-made program/script takes a couple clicks of the mouse. HUGE difference.

Can't say I read it completely, but what I did read I agreed with. So beans for you friend.

Close minded people ? So getting angry about hackers / exploiters and being told nothing will be done ( and by saying nothing can be done, is same as nothing will be done ) your fully accepting of that ?

Have you given rockers your bank account information yet ? As it sounds like no mater what your just going to throw everything you own at him once he starts taking payments.

And as far as bans, they are hacking the game, its safe to say they no longer, or never did have a Legit purchase of the game, so banning a CDKey isnt going to do squat due to a visit with a KeyGen if they even use that. With the Always trust of the client what does the client even use to authenticate, is it something easially editable that a person can easially change.

As it stands now the Hackers are going nowhere, was said in first post nothing can be done, i have heard forum people say he was going with his own engine, yet i havent seen a rockers post about it. Andyour fine with it

They have names for people like that,, they are called Zealot FanBoys, Apple has alot of them

( edit - yes i inow diffrence between script kiddie and actuall " hacker " but if the people couldnt write the program, the script kiddies couldnt use the utility in the first place , )

There is NO reason to EVER trust the client other than sloppy coding. Period. BIS made a shitty game because they were the only racket in town for milsim and could get away with it, and now it's biting them in the ass.

Very interesting.

I'll add that when I get a chance.

Lately I've been thinking I'm just going to link/email/whatever Battleye the released hacks I think are hurting us the most.

I mean, some of the websites have 4k+ people viewing at one time.

That's ridiculous.

i really wish some people would realise the impact of their purchasing or not purchasing dayz/arma 3/warz/other for 30/40bucks is not like Japan banning arma or whatever.

its just hilarious to see ppl continuously threaten a digital-brick wall on the internet with not paying or not paying for two different products that dont exist and even for sueing for a product they didnt buy

How are the hackers able to hook specific memory addresses given the widespread prevalence of ASLR in modern operating systems? I believe that Windows 7 enables it by default.

How often is it that an Alpha version of a game has out of control rampaging hackers?

Virtually never, simply because 99.9% of all game alphas are closed in-house affairs. If you're going to take your alpha public, and let it grow to the point of having hundred of thousands of players, they you ought to take some responsibility for securing it. Seriously how many games, even of those that do public alphas, allow unlimited players to take part? the whole thing is a recipe for disaster.

This is not a normal situation and it requires extraordinary measures.

There is NO reason to EVER trust the client other than sloppy coding. Period. BIS made a shitty game because they were the only racket in town for milsim and could get away with it, and now it's biting them in the ass.

No its biting us in the ass, for BIS its all gravy.
