Adding my 2cents. Admins.

Recommended Posts

After being teleported yesterday, and witnessing it happening twice more while sitting in the lobby, getting admin access, reviewing the log files, and finally understanding how difficult it is for admins to maintain their own servers.

I'm joining the suggestion crowd even though I know that this post would get more views in the general or cheat forum areas.

1. Please give admins the ability to set up "XXX was killed by XXX" messages on the servers.

It would make our job a lot easier to detect cheaters and teleporters.

It would make it clear to players that they are being killed by a cheater, not admin abuse.

It would allow players to report cheaters, by name, to the admins

If the messages were added to the logs, it would also make tracking down reported incidents easier.

2. Arma 2 is rated PEGI 16+ we can't prevent players below that age from getting the game, but server suppliers should request proof of age before renting servers to them.

It won't stop admin abuse, but it would reduce it.

3. You should spawn on the coast every time you join a new server but you don't lose your gear.

It would stop ghosting and server hopping for advantage.

It would prevent players from preparing raids on another server and spawning directly into an enemy camp bypassing all defences.

It would prevent snipers from spawning onto mountain tops and buildings to PK and then server hopping to repeat.

It would encourage players to form communities and learn to play with other players who have made that server their home and it wouldn't have any effect on lone wolves either.

It might affect squads that server hop together, but in reality, how hard is it for an experienced player to meet up with their buddies again?

It would prevent combat logging and sitting in the lobby while a squadmate comes to heal you.

It would prevent combat logging to another server to self-heal, and then logging back in to continue the fight.

4. Set up tents so that they autosave every time an item is placed/removed from them.

It would reduce duping by a huge amount.

When a game mechanic exists that allows players to dupe accidentally, not intentionally, there is a huge problem.

It would prevent false accusations of cheating.

5. Bind one tent to one profile per server. Allow that profile to dismantle that tent and replace it, even after death.

It would prevent tent cities due to duping exploits.

It would promote teamwork or encourage betrayal to order to set up a camp!

As is, one tent can be used to create an infinite number of tents simply by placing and replacing it.

There is nothing to stop a player having one tent on multiple servers.

6. Reduce the storage capacity of tents.

At the moment, a single tent is able to store 10 weapons/tools, 5 (full) backbacks, and 50 items. It doesn't leave a lot of room for sleeping.

It would reduce hoarding.

7. Make tents more functional.

Sitting near a tent should have the same effect as sitting by a campfire at night. (sitting in a tent is not safe if you value your bones).

Logging off beside your tent when on low blood and then logging back in the next day, should have reduce/repair damage such as blood loss.

This is partially incorrect, while you can temporarily store backpacks with items in a tent/vehicle, when a server restarts or crashes, all items inside the backpack are lost. So yes you CAN theoretically have several backpacks loaded with items in a tent, but for no more than a few hours, as most servers are reset every 4-6 for stability.

I wouldn't mind seeing the tents autosave in some form or another though, as that would indeed prevent/reduce a lot of the duping issues.

Wow ... 1 day and buried 3 pages deep. Are these suggestions "that" bad?

No they're good, which is why you don't have much feedback - people prefer too pull apart B)

1. Agree

Disable nameplates if you wish to help your bandits stay undercover.

2. Seems reasonable

3. Agree

Sometimes (and with that I mean certain patches) a lot of servers aren't stable enough to play for a long time so I need to server-hop to find one with acceptable circumstances. But this is an alpha and I don't care if I'd be reset on the beach.

Minor - negative side effect: you can still escape dangerous situations and then you are far away from the threat (besides the snipers on the beach)

4. Agree

5. Agree

6. Agree

7. Not sure if that would work

Set up tent, log out sitting next to it, log in next day, see the tent is gone (server restart, someone destroyed it) and you are still wounded.

Maybe other functionalities like: place your tent within a certain radius to a campfire and then eat inside this radius to restore more blood than usual.

Thank you ... even if you are a bit of a pessimist. ;)

I think he is rather a realist.

And I like your ideas. Especially 1 and 4.
