Removal of NVGs and Thermal Scopes

Recommended Posts

In my expierence with Dayz at the moment i feel that NVGs (Night Vision Goggles) and thermal scopes ruin the atmosphere of this game greatly. There are many reasons for this such as thet ruin the sense of fear you get while playing at night as it is pretty much just like playing at the day. In all the zombie films and games i have seen, i never recall seeing night vision or thermal scopes, the characters usually only have flares or torches to light a dark area adding fear and suspense as you do not know what is in the darkness which with night vision just does not happen. Another reason I think it ruins the game is that it does not seem to be helping the large amount of PvP in the game. There has been many countless times i have been looting Cherno or Elektro or any area along the coast just to be sniped by a camper in the hills with a DMR with night vision or the L85A2 with thermal scope removing this would decrease the chance of being killed at long to medium ranges during the night reducing PvP.The last reason is that the night vision especially does not seem to be that rare. I always come across it once when i take an adventure to the north of the map, being this common it is unfair for new characters as they can't survive at night as they get killed due to the fact they are fighting people who see as well as the do at day at night. This means that new players can't start off at night as they are constantly being camped at night or even just killed if they decide to go north by people who have night vison or thermal and don't decide to camp the coast

Solutions to the NVG and Thermal could be:Remove them from the game, Let the server owner choose if he/she would like them in there server or to at least make them more rare.

Remember this is only a suggestion and not set in stone and i want to find out what other people think about this idea.

EDIT: so many typos

I have also never seen people throw away night vision in such vast quantities in a civil war

This game is not like any other game or film you may have seen. Thats what makes it stand out. The removal of these items would change nothing. Perhaps id agree with the second poster, in making them slightly rarer than they are now. But removal is pointless they are good items.

It's map where a war occurred, so obviously there will be high powered military gear scattered all over the place.

Hmmmm.... Maybe just make something like that.

Remove all nightvision and thermal attachments from weapons, and let just make us loot NightVisionGoggles BUT if you wear it you couldn't use a weapon. So its like to see somebody, but to shoot you need to take them off and fire without it. How you like that ?

well it is like that with all snipers except the dmr i think but would not be very realistic which the game is all about. Still a good idea though

there's no problem with NVGS you noob and L85 thermal. basically if Nvgs were out of the game so will night server because no one will play on them, and the therman is perfectly fine because of the rareity of it.

Did you not get the memo?

Dayz isn't about surviving and looking for food anymore.

its a clans day out lulzfest where everyone gets .50 cal cannons dropping out of the sky and everyone in ghillie suits. At least thats how the youtube vids and this forum and making it seem.

Now wonder people play it like CoD or BF3 when theres so much mil grade gear about.

thermal is quite rare but night vision is not just because you probally would not join a night server with out it does not meen nobody else would

yes it's a shame the game seems to be turning into CoD or BF3 with the amount of wookies camping in bush waiting for hours just to kill a noob with no intention of getting loot, also most of these people seem to get very angry when anyone even mentions the idea of making snipers more rare or removing anything to do with sniping

Just removing whatever duping glitch some players are using and they may be rare enough. Otherwise add batteries in the game. NVGs use a shit ton of batteries.

My suggestions go toward the stand alone, since in this version any script kiddie can throw whatever he wants in the game: Remove the thermal scope, but leave the NVG's. Like the guy above me said, also make the NVG's use batteries, as this would force people to be sparing about when they actually use their NVG's, instead of leaving them on for 5 hours running around in the woods. I don't know how Rocket could do it, but actually making it to where people *have* to use their flashlights more often would also be pretty helpful, as of right now, they are basically a shining beacon of death.

Disposable batteries wouldn't be much better than making them rarer since you could find batteries during the day just incidentally while looking for other things and always have them at night just like the permanent item.

I would balance them by making a battery and a solar trickle charger combo in the gear section. Picking up certain items (NVG's, flashlights, etc.) would give you the gear item for that battery type (OR make the player find the battery separately sometimes/always... up to devs...) and the solar trickle charger would be it's own gear item drop and auto charge all batteries in the inventory during the daylight.

The devs could tweak NVG availability on several levels that way. Instead of just drop rates of the goggles or batteries, they could decide how much time you can use the NVG's or other battery operated items per time spent in the sun charging them.

NVG's might not be as much of a problem if you couldn't use them ALL NIGHT and EVERY NIGHT to just camp somewhere or something because you couldn't get a full night's charge from a full day's charging, or maybe you couldn't use them except in very short bursts because that day had been cloudy/rainy. Most importantly, people couldn't just play at night with NVG's all the time and log off when it's daylight.

The whole NVG thing baffles me though.

I have been in the woods before and even on a new moon it is never as dark as DayZ got. People told me to up my gamma/brightness, but it's obvious this is unintended. It doesn't look like you're seeing a less-dark night, it looks like you you made the graphics glitch out. Somehow everyone defends this nonsense of super pitch perfect dark that is no fun to play in and cannot be enforced so everyone just cheats anyway... then they act like NVG's are the problem.

Make night less retarded and NVG will balance themselves just fine as an improvement rather than going from blind to seeing.
