The [G]ear management changeover isn't working that well

Since 1.5.8 has been released there have been umpteen threads that illustrate how the changeover isn't working at all:

1) Saving vehicles no longer works if you've saved a camping tent previously, because it never switches over to save (UAZ, bus, etc)

2) Repairing/refueling vehicles is no longer possible because the option doesn't actually do anything

I'm sure these are only half of the possible errors that can result from the [G]ear changeover and are the result of an exceedingly unintensive forum search. Might it not be a good idea to switch back to the old system that actually worked (even with the increased server strain) until gear selection is fully tested? A lot of people who found and fixed cars are going to be pissed when their location doesn't actually save. Same with not being able to bandage friends or give them blood.

Thanks for piling all these threads into one. I'm not sure what the answer to all this is going to be, but here's to hoping it comes before the weekend. My buddy and I are all set to repair a car as soon as the option is returned to us.

We're both too afraid to wander away from it since it's the first we've seen.


Also... Is anyone that's NOT having problems running the beta patch for OA? I wonder if maybe that might fix what's going on. I tried upgrading to the beta patch but due to the server issues this morning I found myself on the shore when I logged in, ran all the way to where I knew the car was, but now it's gone. :(

We are the testers... I prefer this new system, but it definitely needs to be fixed because there are a lot of problems with it. Server status is more important than anything at the moment, with the amount of crashing and de-sync occurring due to the high amount of data they are handling.. Fix the system, and keep the bug reports coming, don't remove it, we are here to test and give Rocket information so he can improve the game.

The problem that I'm seeing with it is that in previous versions, you had increased stress on the server/desyncs, sure. But you additionally had all your actions saved/usable. Now it's come to the point where you stealing a car and driving it halfway across the server might not stick because you can't save its position; or you dying from lack of food because you can't get the fire working correctly to cook the 8 raw meats you have. Couple that with tents not being placeable still, the whole database issue still not being resolved (apparently) and people randomly spawning in water, it seems a little weird to keep with this system when the old system worked good enough to actually enable people to test the other bugfixes that rocket is putting out.
