Server settings; inconsistent night servers

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm curious how some servers are sheer pitch black and others are a little less. Are there different settings the server admins can apply? Sometimes adjusting brightness helps other times I just run around the woods with my military torch :D

nah, there's more to it than that. I've been on multiple servers with clear skies and they've been dark and light. I'm sure its a setting.

I would love to know, why in the name of god somebody has pretty much light at nights, while another player cannot see shit. This happends alot. When checking ingame watch, they have different times.

It a server setting to limit gamma and brightness to set levels.

The moon does make a big differance

Some server owners see turning your gamma and brightness up to be able to see in the dark as a exploit.

Of course I may have just dreamed that

This sounds spot on to me.

I understand why server admins would do that, but at the same time the Arma 2 engine was never built to have the player being in the dark without a flashlight or NVG's (rocket has even said this). Therefore, I think a balance should be met, no?

I agree it should be a standard setting across all servers.

I would still like it pretty dam dark on moonless nights but it should not be as dark as it is where you can be in a place and only be able to see the bright bright stars and nothing else.
