Does amount of loot reduce speed?

Recommended Posts

I have a question for you all.

Does the amount of loot in my inventory + backpack affect my walking, crawling, running speed?

If not...then should it?

My opinion is yes but only to a certain extent. We don't want to discourage people from carrying a lot of loot but it would be nice to have the option to sacrifice less loot for a little more speed.

I don't know many games that have this implemented. Do you know any that do? How does it affect gameplay?

Sometimes it looks like my IRL friend, runs a little faster IG than I do. I usually have more loot on me than he does, so it could be possible. The difference is really minimal though. Could also be because of FPS differences (Although I doubt it since I have a much better pc than his laptop)

Pretty sure the only thing that effects it is what weapon you have in your hands Pistols seem to run faster and hatchets seem to crouch run faster Mainhand weapons seem to be a bit slower most of the time, just my observation though.

Why do you think it should? Just for the sake of discussion :)

Depends, for Dayz style game maybe not as its more geared towards authentic rather than realistic. But if they were to make a standalone SP then...and IMO this mod screams for a SP portion and I think it would add tremendously to its appeal.4Hour light cycle, having to find wood to keep you warm for the night, sleeping bags to lay down to use when you need to sleep,no snipers just looking to blow your head off, vehicles you find parts to repair and allowing you to travel to further towns to scavenge....just you against all odds.Think Project Zomboid but in FPS style game.

Movement speed is unaffected by held weapon or carried items.

incorrect. you run at a different speed with a rifle in hand rather than a pistol.

Total carried items make no difference

I believe it should too. There should be a difference between how much the loot would weigh.

A can of beans is pretty heavy for the place it takes up. A box of painkillers usually won't be as heavy, considering that it seemingly take up equally the space. I would also bet that a Magazine with .50 bullets is heavy as fuck, even though that they can be packed up pretty efficiently.

There should be some kind of weight system, but im not sure if it's possible with the current Arma II engine.

Killing Floor does, I believe. You have a certain amount you can carry, which is represented by the number 15(or more if you're a support specialist, I think). The closer you get to 15, the slower you get bit by bit. You can also move faster when you have your knife or a melee weapon out as opposed to a firearm.

That could work in the this game I suppose, though maybe not in that exact way.

It does effect gameplay in Killing Floor, though that game is class-based and strictly co-op. Certain classes have a faster general running speed, and so on.

Could work in this, though. Might make an ALICE backpack less desirable to those that want to move quickly. I'm neutral about the whole idea, though.

well the more stuff you have on you're self or person should slow you down for the sake of realism, and so bandits with a good gun and tons of stuff can't run as fast as a new spawn that just has starting stuff. it would also make you question what you should carry one you're person during a raid because you may not be able to run faster then zeds.

First I'd like to say your signature has an awesome quote in it. :D

I agree with your points! I personally think it would make survival more fun and make the incentive to find vehicles! How many of us are guilty of hording? I have like 8 meat steaks in my back pack + 8 cans of food plus obscene amounts of gear I rarely use.

The downside to this is that it would make travelling these HUGE maps much more of a chore/grind. It is already pretty tough to make long treks. Maybe if there would more cars/bikes in the game then it could balance out.

This was 'Busted' by DayZ Mythbusters right here:

skip to 01:00.

For those of you wondering why you tend to lag behind or the other way around has probably something to do with latency/ping. The higher your ping the more 'accurate' information the server has of your location and those with a bit higher ping tend to lag behind those with lower ping.

How meaningless the word 'incorrect' is when anyone can throw it out there without knowledge of the subject in question.

Again, you run at the same speed regardless if you carry no weapon, a pistol, or a rifle. Running speed is constant. Period.

I've never came across a car or truck that wasn't in use or hidden by a player, so i do think it's kinda unbalanced but it also adds to the mood a bit. and on long trips with out a ride it will make players plan more. maybe instead of bringing more food then you need you will bring a hunting knife and some matches in an off case you use all you're food. it will laso give you a reason to drop clips that only have one or two shots left in them if you already have a full one. btw the road is epic. love the pic

I had a coyote backpack jammed with stuff. I don't remember what I was carrying in my hand think it was the m105 but I was running really slow. Not sure which one was slowing me down though.

nice video, but it only compares movement speed carrying a rifle with speed carrying no weapon, it does not compare the carrying of a pistol in hand with the rifle as I said.

But thankfully I am cool with being corrected if some one can actually demonstrate it.
