Don't remove KOs, but...

Recommended Posts

Getting incapped by a random zombie hit when under 9000 blood is ridiculous and the pinnacle of inconsistency.

My other suggestion thread recommended a way to encourage grouping; and mates to protect you when KO'd would just do that (so take this pro-solo post quite objectively!), but this is obscene for solo'ers.

75% of health is no low amount of blood for a 1 in X chance to pretty much be sent back to the coast again.

The randomness and extremity of the consequences is out of hand really - Make it 3000 blood but more consistent at a whimsical suggestion, but its terrible as it is.

*I am aware a lot of you want zombies to be harder, an actual threat to be scared of, but this roll-of-the-dice-and-you're-fucked-if-alone should not be the way.

EDIT: Only now have I seen http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/53175-under-9000-health-and-zombies-random-super-punch/

You can be knocked out due to any trauma, everybody reacts differently to injuries.

So no, it's not ridiculous.

3000 blood, are you taking the biscuit? Do you want to have airbags so you can add them to vehicles?

It was admittedly whimsical i.e. flawed and nowhere near watertight. In regards to realism - yeah you can be knocked out by SOME trauma, but I doubt these zombies are making pinpoint shots to your head, or hardly breaking your flesh apart (consider the chance they make you bleed).

If you want realism let the player be flailed about and senseless by zombie bashes rather than an instakill scenario.

Trauma can occur anywhere on the body, causing your defence system to shut-down to combat what is going on. It doesn't have to be a head injury.

Hypothetically, but the zombies are pummeling/clawing/whatevering us not shooting us. If a realism boff trauma on this scale should not be incapacitating nearly as much as it is now - in fact it'd be such a negligible level it should be removed.

Anyway, even if my realism related knowledge is wrong - does the situation not scream to surrender your 'realism' for game balance?

Not really. It's good that the game is hard.

9000/12000 blood equals 1.5L or real life blood you lose. That loss of blood will surely affect you.

When I was a teen I rolled my ankle and fractured it, after about 2 minutes I passed out and woke up a couple minutes later outside.

It was a tiny hairline fracture and wasn't bad at all, but I still passed out. I've had worse injuries and never passed out since then, so it was kinda weird.

That's my semi-relevant story.

Not really. It's good that the game is hard.

That is not difficulty - it's a mechanic that forces a restart rather than make what you're doing harder.

you can be knocked out from 1 punch IRL so why not in game.... people bitch about the un-realsim and the realism... its annoying to be downed by a zombie after one hit but you pick yourself up and get on with it ,, if u die then next time u make sure u not close enough to a zombie to get ownd :P

Probably, but a 1 in X chance of an instakill isn't the way it should affect us

Again this does not add to difficulty, I am not against that, it is a randomly generated restart for soloers.

Also - you can get a spontaneous heart attack IRL (wouldn't be a bitch to code) - so why not ingame!

I ran out of fuel for my car once up north and it was in the middle of the night. I had to cross a city and some farms to get to a pump, not a big deal. I had an M4 CCO and everything else like gps, ghillie, etc but a NVG.

So as I'm crossing a farm a zombie aggros on me and I think to myself "That is okay, it's a farm no other will hear me shooting and I can take 1 zombie down. I have a freaking army rifle.". Of course it was impossible to aim at the running zombie because he was running at light speed as usual so I wait for it to get to me.

For my surprise the first hits that lands me makes me start bleeding and knocks me out cold.

At this point I'm looking at my screen not believing what is happening. I'm about to lose a good character, 20 days old, good gear, car, because I was at 9000 blood when a zombie first hit me.

Thank god my dude woke up at 900 blood. I emptied the mag on the zombie and bandaged myself. Had to call a friend irl and ask him to log on and come fetch me and give me a blood bag because I was afraid of dying.

So - from now on - I never walk around with less than 9000 blood no matter what.

You may say it's realistic, call me a casual and say that you like hard games but this is just bullshit. Make it 5000 blood then - hell, make it 6000 - but 9000 is retarded and cumbersome, it detracts more than it adds to the game, in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind this if I could at least shoot zombies as they approach me but shooting in Arma is already fairly complicated - which is okay since it aims for realism - but now as it is you are probably sure to be hit by a zombie if you get aggro and this is frustrating.

I'm posting it for the third Time now. 12.000 blood can not represent all your blood. Because in such case you will be dead at 9000-8000. It looks like in this game 12k is just some number, that represents the amount of blood, that should be lost for your character to die. Losing 25% of that number is bad, but nowhere close to losing 25% of all your blood. Just if you want to bring realism into discussion of game mechanic - do it right.
