Okay. So. I need advice. It seems no matter what I do, no matter how far I get in this game, I get shot in the face before I can get anything good at all. I have trekked across the entire map, passing zombies, avoiding players, without even finding a single gun. If I do, it's a shitty pistol that I can't use without letting every zombie in the vicinity know my location. The best thing I've found so far is a damn crossbow (I've found a lee enfield, but no ammo, so it doesn't count). I can't shoot a damn crossbow in the game. The controls (Mainly aiming) are just too stiff for a one shot reload weapon. Then, I make it to devil's castle, loot everything, and then when I decide to go to the top someone blasts me in the face with a shotgun. My girlfriend (Who was watching) and I almost pissed ourselves.

I'm not really trying to rant, but how can I avoid getting shot at every turn? I can't find any military bases, no matter how hard I look. I just always seem to get lost, or get killed. I hate that I can't trust anyone, but I'm asking for advice. How do I find these military bases? I either starve or thirst to death before I can get anywhere.

Also, none of my friends are PC gamers, and thus, I can't form a group with them.

Search for people that want to form groups on these forums. Do some research and be proactive and i guarantee things will pop up!

As for getting shot all the time, are you just standing up and running like the wind? That'll generally get you shot pretty fast.

Try checking out the day z map website so you can figure out where some of the more remote higher yield items are. Go for barns at first and step it up to deer stands afterwards. I usually start in the city to gather supplies from a fresh respawn because I need a map, backpack, compass and matches.

Not always, but I'm fairly impatient, so sometimes I will. I've never been shot that way, though. It seems people always scare the piss outta me when they do it because they're always hiding around corners. xD

Its not that hard, i have seen over 5 double barrels, 8 lee enfields over the past two days just checking 3-4 farms.

Well, then I'm one of the unluckiest people to play dayz. I never find anything in barns.

here you are - http://dayzdb.com/map and u only need a compass ;-) Go north, search for deer stands, try to get to an airfield, but keep caution coz snipers love that spot. Use zombies as "human indicator", coz they spawn in towns only if human is near. Avoid fields, but remember that helis spawn in fields and they have best loot. Search in norht forest for tents. Actually it is not so hard to survive, my mate and I are alive already for more then a month, exept death after new update )))

Use online maps and go for barns to get a shotgun or enfield. You always get lots of ammo for them. Don't go to any POIs like castles or airfields, all you need are barns, grocery stores and churches. But do your homework first and setup your keys like you want them.

And you'll soon learn that other players will remain the only challenge at all.

Try a server that restarts more often. I was on this one server were all the deerstands had high grade (not highest) military gear. First time i ever had anything it was a crowbar and i didnt know that it needed reloading and i was throwing flares attracted zeds, died.

Then when i thought i got it, i was sniped and then stalked by some guy and killed. Then comes the killed by doors phase. Last death was moreorless voluntarily as i tried to be friendly .. Hehe

Just ALWAYS watch your arse. People can spawn anywhere, so only cause you checked there doesnt mean its safe.

Try going on evening servers when it's a bit darker, you have a better chance of moving about without being spotted, so long as you're not running through the middle of town :)

Also once you've got a hatchet you'll be ok in-terms of Zeds, just lead them to a barn or a building and pick them off one-by-one as they come up stairs or in doors, for some reason as soon as they enter a barn, house, factory e.t.c they slow down to walking pace which makes killing them a LOT easier if you've got no-where else to go.

You could try looting supermarkets as well, 7/10 they have some alright stuff in there, I found a Lee Enfield and a G17 in a supermarket once, I had to use the G17 on a dude who startled me coming into the supermarket and I ended up with an AK-74u Kobra ;D
