twix (DayZ) 24 Posted July 31, 2012 Here's an alternate look to the GPS and maps in addition to cameras. Not sure if this has been gone through before. Feel free to comment.GPS:Weather ForecastIn addition to showing coordinates, GPS's could be made more functional with the use of weather tracking elements to determine if it's hot, cold, humid, rainy, chance of storms etc.Satellite View:With this view you could plan your route to see if there was a blockade in the nearby vicinity.Buddy System:The GPS can be linked with other GPS devices to track your buddy in real time.Resource View:Along with the satellite view the GPS can view in-depth resources within the region such as electricity grid monitoring, radio broadcast towers, water tables within a region and can be easily adapted with new emerging scientific technologies to gather data such as famines, epidemics etc. Please enquire with the Centre of Disease Prevention and Control on availability of such services.Maps & Cameras:I believe maps should be extremely rare to find. Instead you would need to rely on cameras to take photos of an area. You eventually begin to sketch an overview of the map onto a piece of paper. The more you have been to the area the more details get gradually sketched/revealed on the map.

Tfortacos (DayZ) 41 Posted July 31, 2012 Sounds handy!Maybe not the satellite thing, sounds a bit eh.. idk.The map idea with the camera gives us all something to do, I like. The Pal tracking device is also neat, but I'm sure it'll cause to many bugs.Weather system, gerat idea! i'll be packing my heat packs, I always catch a cold. #General Hawk 24 Posted July 31, 2012 Sounds great, most of it. The buddy system how ever, I think that is an awesome idea.I can see some great events coming from that, such as your buddy being killed without you knowing, and the guy who killed him takes your friends GPS. And because its the same GPS, it is still tracking. To the badit has no idea he is being tracked, nor that you are tracking a bandit, and not your beloved buddy. So here's what i had in mind for the satellite view. It allows you to view if there are road blocks within the vicinity whether it be static props or people setting up tank traps or wire fencing. You would just be able to view those barricades in this view. It is also used with the resource monitor to give you statistics on possible future player driven updates such power grids, radio stations kinda like showing you what's live on the grid and so. The whole famines and epidemics can be used to monitor infection rates but would need the players to setup a monitoring station initially to track those sort of stats. D3AD_S1L3NT 13 Posted July 31, 2012 Wow you would be better off asking for an iphone to be put in the game (which would be epic) but i dont think it will happen.~silent
BrettHarrenton 29 Posted July 31, 2012 Besides the map is so pointless its not very much needed and would be a waste of time

Mos1ey 6301 Posted August 11, 2012 I believe you are.Nah, he's actually right. I usually have a map but either don't use it or just use an online map cause it shows terrain in more detail, lol. If the map was harder to acquire, I just wouldn't bother.

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Lame, and who in this fictional apocalypse is manning the weather stations?weather satellites my friend. Would love more feedback from more sensible peeps out there.I don't want to sound like I'm just trying to annoy you, but I actually agree with the llama with the hat.Weather reports are not really a simple case of "computer says yes/no", meteorologists are trained to pick up on signs of often unpredictable air currents and pressure changes. I'm not a meteorologist, so there's probably a lot more to it than even that.A similar problem goes for the idea of a satellite map, a satellite map is all well and good but I hope you're not suggesting some sort of real-time satellite map because commercial satellite maps of where I live are always years out of date. I'm sure MI-6 have the capability, but I wouldn't be able to use it in the event of social collapse. Edited August 11, 2012 by Ulfhedjinn
OrLoK 16186 Posted August 11, 2012 Hello thereI like these ideas and they all are achieveable and indeed exist as A2 mods.as to the weather thing, let's have some artistic licence, uber realism isn't the order of the day a Zombies don't exist. So, I think relaxing the rules of reality is fine in an instance like this.rgdsLoK
