why is arma 2 download needed to play this game?

Sorry if im in the wrong forum but i dont understand why i need to pay and download another game in order to play this one.

I just heared about dayz today and wanted to try it out, but its telling me to download arma 2 and i dont see why.

Help or info would be nice =)

Because DayZ is a mod based entirely off ARMA 2's code, textures, etc. DayZ can NOT function without ARMA.

Again, DayZ is a MOD, NOT a standalone game.

Because this isn't a stand alone game, it is a mod for an existing game. If you want to try it out, buy it. The end.

DayZ is not yet a stand alone game. Its a mod of arma 2 combined operations. THE biggest mod of all time and still growing. Buy it now.
