percept 0 Posted July 30, 2012 I'm new to this game but I've done some research and it's helped me get better somewhat. I still suck but something that keeps getting me killed over and over is this.(1) spawn(2) move myself (crouched) to the nearest town(3) approach outskirts of town(4) see zombies. avoid them(5) look to my right. theres a zombie(a) 30m away from my just chilling. then i see a zombie(2) sprinting toward be another 20m behind zombie(a)my question is this. how the hell does a zombie whos furtheraway from my aggro from what appears to be at least 50m away when the zombie thats 30m away just stairs at me with its mouth openthis happens to me ALL the time. im making no noise. no zombies near my entire area are aggroed. then all of a sudden, literally from NO WHERE they sprint toward me from further away then where the original zombies werei know the learning curve is steep, i like that. makes the game more interesting imo, but i lost here so i would appreciate any advice
Raaad 3 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) Im fairly new and This is what I've been doing to get starter gear since the zombie aggro got thrown out of whack recently 1. Find low pop server (3-6 people)2. Make sure it's night time3. Get your easy loot on since zombies can't see flashlights right now4. ????5. Profit!6. Find a daytime server with what ever pop level you want to play with and carry on Edited July 30, 2012 by Raaad
kragz 156 Posted July 30, 2012 Game is in Alpha stage. That's before the Beta stage. It's rife with bugs. However, you shouldn't have a problem avoiding zombies once you get a feel for their "field of vision" after they are aggro'd. I am constantly looking to my sides and rear with the ALT key keeping in mind those Usain Bolt Zs that aggro from miles away. You can hear them when you get used to it too. Just run inside and exploit the fact they can only walk. Here I usually Hatchet them to the head while they are in walk mode, or i just run around them or use another exit and I am safely away.I pretty much just run anyway once i've spawned. Also scouting the adjacent tree lines for snipers, I usually just sprint into town. I end up losing most of the zombies by running around houses and through buildings. When it's all clear I prefer the quick in and out of looting. Less time for someone to appear at your town.
Raaad 3 Posted July 30, 2012 (edited) Kinda defeats the idea of it being a survival game when nothing is a threat (zombies can't see you, no other survivors)It's Alpha right? I'd rather test more of the game than the inconstant zombie aggro while getting starter items. Besides you yourself admit you exploit zombies having to walk while indoors Edited July 30, 2012 by Raaad

Zombies aren't so much of a threat when you get used to their mechanics. Survivors are your worst enemy. I usually just sprint into a few key points in Elektro/Cherno and sprint out.

Rather say something like its not properly coded, and maybe add a "yet" in the endI'm new to this game but I've done some research and it's helped me get better somewhat. The way that system works however is very inconsistent and tricky....

HMS 115 Posted July 31, 2012 this happens to me ALL the time. im making no noise. no zombies near my entire area are aggroed. then all of a sudden, literally from NO WHERE they sprint toward me from further away then where the original zombies werei know the learning curve is steep, i like that. makes the game more interesting imo, but i lost here so i would appreciate any adviceTo address this particular question, as opposed to the general theme of it being an alpha release, I would say if you truly are literally making NO noise and there is absolutely not a single bar coming off that ear icon, and then Zombies from way further away from you decide to attack, AND this happens to you ALL the time...LOL Sounds like a bug to me dude.I've found myself having to fight off a walker who decided to get in my face as I was hunched over looting a pile outside, in the dark. All I can say is "I must have done something wrong" or it's a bug like my hatchet not being reloadable.Or maybe someone else somehow aggrivated the walker and as he was running his circuitous route, he decided you were closer somehow. We may never know. slyder73 94 Posted July 31, 2012 It was posted on one of the previous patches that zombie behaviour also includes some random chance of detecting players in the vicinity they "could" see.You are doing the right things (to the OP), but you are being detected by the random zombie. We have found that simply running full tilt into a town and into a building is better. Most of the time there are no zombies after us and the 1 or 2 are easily chopped or shot at the doorway.
:VADER: 88 Posted July 31, 2012 its fucked atm , so its a roll of the dice , some zombies are on rage mode while others just stand in open starring at the sun, I've had zombie run away from me at times :S
kragz 156 Posted July 31, 2012 Doesn't this make the game more realistic, even if it was identical? Surely ALL zombies aren't going to react exactly the same with exactly the sight range?

Most of the time there are no zombies after us and the 1 or 2 are easily chopped or shot at the doorway.This. If I don't think there are any players around lately I've just been sprinting in, grabbing everything then getting the hell out of there.Managed to navigate the Balota artifacting with about 15 zombies tailing me, into the communications building, upstairs grabbing all the loot, 2 had come up the ladder by the time I got there, slipped past them taking only 1 hit and made it down the ladder and into one of the hangers undetected. You feel like a badass and it's so much faster than trying to sneak, lolol. You just have to be sure noone's around or they'll notice the aggro and you're screwed. xd
