DMR or M107?

Recommended Posts

Which one and why? I'm the designated marksman in the squad, and have the choice between the two but I'm not sure what to pick.

I would go with dmr unless you want to camp from 1000 meters by yourself as a bandit. Seeing as you are part of a squad I would suggest dmr. DMR scopes can also work with nvgs and are more medium range group firefight friendly.

DMR can't be zeroed, so you have to get good with the mil-dots. Much harder to make long range shots (>500m). M107 can be zeroed.

DMR isn't a 1 shot kill unless it's a headshot, though it does fire very fast. M107 is a 1 shot kill.

DMR works with NVG's, M107 doesn't.

DMR ammo is common, M107 is super rare.

It really depends on what your purpose as "marksman" is. I run with a DMR and I hang back a little and cover my friends from medium range, while my friends have a M107 and a M24, so they handle the longer range stuff.

i think u can use NVGs with the m107 aswell plus the m107 is a 1shot kill and dmr is like 12.

if you want the guy to log out after you make him bleed then DMR

if you want to 1 shot kill 90% of the time m107. ofc everybody will instantly know where you are when you shoot this, so yeah

Which one do you like more? It comes down to what you are comfortable with...

For example, if you are not confident with your shot placement then you would feel more comfortable with a higher capacity magazine. Designated Marksman always goes with a rifle like DMR I think. I'm not sure but they are not snipers and more versatile in combat.

DMR - if you get good with it it's just as effective as the M107/AS50 up to about 500 meters. After that it gets a little tricky. Plus, it can be used with NVG. Plus ammo is abundant. Plus there's a lot more satisfaction in getting those 1-hit kill headshots with the DMR.

IF you are the PDM for your group.. you should have a bag big enough for a second weapon. I woudl take both... DMR for night ops (as only sniper able to use NVG's with) and the 107 for day ops.IF you never fight at night the 107. you do NOT have to be 1000M out liek someone said.. it has Zeroing from 100m - 1200m. The only draw back is that you can be heard from 450M aways were as the other rifles (not including the AS-50) are 180M. A true PDM also has rangefinders or if not, understands how the mildots work.. Both got mildots so no advan/disadvan there. True snipers take the garantee kill.. if you can hit once.. kill it.. 107 all the way.

Edit:- Everyone can be a big head.. one shot kill with DMR in the head bam yay me bla bla.. I would rather put the safety of my team ahead of my ego.. If I know that I can shoot at the entier body of a target to kill it other than having to hit the head.. theres no contest. 75%-80% increase in odds of the kill

M107 aint always one hit kill if you hit the body. Hit one in the chest yesterday, and he seemingly survived the hit.

Wait....

You are the DESIGNATED MARKSMAN in your group and you ask if you should take the DESIGNATED MARKSMAN RIFLE or an anti material rifle?

You've got to be kidding me

I know what it's called. Just because it's called that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be as effective. I've never used the m107 before, so I was wanting a second opinion. Think before you try get one over on someone, you arsehole.

Not sure why anyone is responding with anything but the m107 for daytime. 1 shot, 1 kill, you can zero in to give nearly 100% accuracy. There's no guess work like there is with the dmr. Sometimes you only have a couple seconds before you lose your target and the m107 ensures both speed and the damage to kill someone instantly.

Dmr is fine for night, or if you're running into town..

My loadout is the AS50, and a silenced m4 in my backpack.

I prefer DMR for its usability in medium range exchanges. I also have little interest in hanging out 500-1k meters away picking off people. I feel the DMR is appropriate for responsive play and setting up an efficient level of sight/defense while my friends are looting. If you have a lot of time to prep your shots and plan on being a good fair distance from targets, I would bet on the 107. It just doesn't fit my play style.

Because he is the designated marksman for his group. Not the sniper. Two different jobs.

"The DM role differs significantly from that of a specially trained sniper. A sniper is a specialist highly trained in fieldcraft who carries out a range of specific missions independent of others, and more specialized than standard infantry tasks. In contrast, a DM is a soldier who has received some additional marksmanship training. The DM's role is to provide an additional capability to the infantry platoon, which is the ability to engage targets at greater ranges than the other members of the squad or section."

Play around with both and see which one you like best. Any gun can get the job done if used correctly. Also take the personal experiences of others and evaluate which one you would prefer off that.

M24 > DMR imo.

Yes it's a bolt action, but a scope that can be zeroed is a valuable asset....given you can judge distance.

However, I'd take the as50 over all others.
