Caltrops.

Recommended Posts

To help with the significant speed that zeds sometimes have and some what ripping off Diablo3 could caltrops be implimented as a placed type persistant item (like a turret with charges that would depleat) as new entitys entered the AOE. It would force targets to a walk in the AOE.

This could help with building camps as you could line areas with them and a trolls delight.

Beartraps are a bit different IMO one shot and you have a broke leg whatnot have a few never used them. Caltrops IRL are used in multipuls a handfull or so over an area. The reason I said charges is to reflect the diminishing amount in said area. I would imagine they would get stuck in a zed or person and not removed, scattered to another area, or impacted into the ground. Used on roads could be an easy way to flatten tires if you have bandit convoys on your server like the one I am on. The turret charge was just an easy refrence to think on. As you clearly picked up.

Edit: To add, you COULD improvise these by useing simple thumbtacks and sharpened nails. The shear amount of improvised traps and items could add a ton of immersion.

Caltrops are for vehicles aren't they? If so, fuck yeah!

A single use patch of caltrops could be deployed on the land or road and used for hijacks, taking out all wheels at once. The obvious drawback being that the bandits would need to find four wheels to recover the vehicle.

Caltrops wouldn't work on Zeds would they? Since they don't seem to be averse to pain (they don't falter or retreat when they've been shot) some tiny spikes in the ground wouldn't cause enough physical damage to stop them from walking.

Players on the other hand? Caltrops could force a player to walk gingerly over the areas to avoid them, sprinting over them could cause you to prone and not be able to stand until bandaging your feet. Great for preventing enemies from attacking your base or rushing your position.
